A merican magazine Forbes writes that, when it comes to tour- ism, the Balkan coun- tries tend to be over- shadowed by some of Europe’s larger western nations, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a world of spectacular beauty to be found all across the peninsula. “Roughly four hours southwest of Belgrade, an oasis of pristine nat- ural beauty exists in the form of Tara National Park”, notes Forbes. Apart from noting that this territory is rich in untouched flora and fauna, the popular U.S. magazine writes that Tara hides fascinating monuments of culture and history, such as the 11 th -century Rača Monastery. In ad- dition to Tara, the Forbes’ list al- so includes Bosnia’s Una National Park, Bulgaria’s Pirin National Park, Greece’s Kerkini Lake National Park and Albania’s Valbona Valley Nation- al Park. Prostor Tare proglašen je na- cionalnim parkom 13. jula 1981. godine i zauzima površinu od 24.991,82 hektara. Nalazi se na krajnjem zapadu Srbije i zahvata područje ograničeno tokom Drine između Višegrada i Bajine Bašte. Po nadmorskoj visini, Tara spada u srednjevisoke planine, čija je pro- sečna nadmorska visina od 1.000 do 1.200 metara, a najviši vrh Zbo- rište nalazi se na 1.544 metara nad- morske visine.
