Situated just around the corner from HHC, SOFEA supports students who don’t fit into mainstream schools, while tackling wholesale food waste through the community larder. We picked orders for local foodbanks and worked alongside some of the young people enrolled in SOFEA’s alternative education system. SOFEA support the young people by providing an untraditional learning environment, equipped with a gym, sofas and bean bags, and a necessary punching bag for maths lessons... Personally, I found it energising to witness SOFEA’s impact and I am reminded of our mission to reach all learners, including those who don’t fit into the typical curriculum. putrid bananas and potatoes, I was galvanised by how much surplus food goes to waste from supermarket chains. It is a relief to see items previously destined for landfill now recycled, distributed to those in need, and composted into renewable energy.
