College, Houghton, N. Y.’, In presenting his. proposal for the establishment of the "Bryan Foundation." His report out lined a plan, and proposed that a fund of $25,000,000.00 be raised "to aid In.the support of such Institutions of learn ing as are loyal to the fundamental doctrines of the Scrip- ■ture.” Dr. Riley said that the fund would provide assist ance for such schools “ only so long as they remained loyal to God and His Word * * * and, also, give an opportunity to all persons who desire (but with designation of funds) to lend special assistance to any such school in which they may have a personal interest.” Two Mighty Methodist. Ministers Rev. L. W. Munhall, the 84 year old editor of "The Methodist," recalled that he had preached in Metropolitan Methodist Church (Toronto) fifty years ago when the fam ous Dr. Morley Puncheon was minister, and also recalled conducting an evangelistic service in the old Granite Rink in which scores of people were converted. Dr. Munhall displayed remarkable physical and mental vigor, and smote the Modernists hip and thigh with trenchant castigation. He declared that the bishops had initiated a movement 25 years ago to revolutionize the doctrines of the Methodist body, with the result that today Methodism in the U. S. is shot through and through with as rank rationalism as ever appeared in Tom Paine’s “ Age of Reason” ; and that this was treason and a breaking of ordination vows. Dr. Munhall’s charges were fully Corroborated by the statements of Rev. George Whitefleld Ridout, professor in Asbury College, Kentucky. Dr. Ridout said that it was impossible in the United States to get an evangelical book published by the Methodist publishing houses. The theo logical schools were hotbeds of rationalistic theology, and the summer schools were poisonous fountains of Modernism. Quoting Sir Francis Drake, who, in a storm on the Thames, ejaculated, “ Must I who have escaped the rage of the ocean be drowned in a ditch?” Prof. Ridout declared that the question today was, "Shall Methodism, which has come through many storms, b'e' drowned in the ditch of New Theology and rationalism?” Meeting in Boston years ago a group of Methodist lead ers had agreed that the Methodist Church should be lib eralized. “ This has come to pass,” said the speaker, "and in consequence Methodist leadership has throw* away the cardinal truths and doctrines of Methodism and left in their place a mosaic without Moses, a theology without Wesley, a Christianity without Christ, a creed without dogma, a faith without Deity, and a Bible without inspiration, so that the average Methodist preacher today can ‘put it across’ on the basis of subscription to a philosophy, contribution to a sociology, endorsement of a program, adoption of a psy chology and acceptance of a challenge. Fanatics for the Truth Dr. Shields declared that Fundamentalists had been called “ fanatics for the old truths and doctrines,’' and they were glad to subscribe to that charge, for they believed that the Bible was the Word of God and were proud of it. "A man who takes the anti-evolution side today,” declared Dr. Arthur I. Brown, “ took his intellectual life in his hands, and he had been well aware of this when six months ago in his home city of Vancouver he had taken his stand on the public platform against the theory of evolu tion and for the absolute integrity and infallibility of the

AN IMPERATIVE CALL TO IMPORTUNATE PRAYER (Resolution passed at the Eighth Annual Con vention of the World’s Christian Fundamentals Association) KBMC03I “ Whereas, the apostasy from the* faith oh the part of the pulpit; the worldliness and unspirituality in the pews ; the alarming conditions morally throughout the nations; the breakdown of home life ; the lack of respect for all authority in community life ; the atheistic philosophy of the schools; the putrefaction of contemporary literature, and the indecency and damning influence of mod ern amusements, all reveal the need of a sweeping revival; * “ Therefore, in this day of appalling need we call upon Christians everywhere through out the world to pray earnestly and prevail ingly for a Heaven-sent, world-wide revival that shall awaken the church, put the pul pit on fire, make ..soul-winning the chief business of Christians, bring conviction of sin upon sinners and the fear of God upon the community and the nations. “ We call upon Christians on every conti nent to keep * Sunday, the Fourth day of July, 1926, as a day of prayer, when churches and homes will be open everywhere for impor tunate prayer. “ We urge all Christian magazines and newspapers in every country, in every lan guage, to broadcast this appeal, and every evangelical pastor to announce the appeal and preach on ‘ Prayer and Revival’ on thé Sunday that precedes the day suggested, for prayer. “ Shall we not have such a day of prayer as-the world has never seen, and which will bring about results so far-reaching that hell shall be poorer and heaven richer, and earth encircled with blazing revivals which will bring the multitudes to the C h r i s t of Calvary ?”
