nor the uncertain fortunes of the fu ture hold any fear for him. “ He is able to guard that which I have com mitted unto Him against that day.” To know Christ is to know the future, its character and its consummation. There can be but one termination. “ He is able to keep.” “ He loves, He cares, He knows.” There is a marvelous balance of the truths of Scripture, a sort of divine equilibrium. There is the confidence that He is able to guard that which we have committed unto Him, and this promise is followed immediately with this precept, “ That good, thing which was committed unto thee guard thou through the Holy Spirit.” There is a trust, a deposit, which we have com mitted unto Him, and there is a divine trust, a holy deposit of faith which He has committed unto us. And so also, qyer against our “ know” is His “ knoweth.” “ I know Him,” Paul cries, "and therein lies my Certainty.” But is that all? Is there nef underlying foundation, basic even Ito that? Yes; we turn to the next chapter and we hear him say, " ‘How- belt .the firm foundation of God stand- eth. Having this-seal: the Lord know eth them that are His.” Here is some thing greater than our faith in Him. We know Him. Yefc. But He knows us. The Certainty of our faith rests upon the Certainty of His Word. Our faith rests upon His faithfulness, our fidelity upon His: “ How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word. What more can He say than to you He hath said; To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled. “ The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose I will not, I will not desert to his foes. That soul, though all hell should en deavor to shake, I’ll never, no never, no never for sake.” H i The Seventh Annual Bible Confer ence of the Central Penna. “ THE CERTAINTY OF OUR FAITH” (Continued from page 331) His present attitude alone but in His changeless attributes. It is to know that God’s purpose to redeem is older than His purpose to create. II. Upon the basis of this same ex perience Paul looks, moreover, With Confidence Upon the Present. “ Where- unto I am appointed a preacher (a herald), an apostle and a teacher, for which cause I suffer- also these things, yet I am not ashamed.” Why? “ For I know Christ,” “ He who hath rendered death powerless and illuminated life and incorruptibility."
