things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them” (2 Tim. 3: 13-14). The one doctrine at present most bitterly attacked by the Liberal, or Modernist, is that of the Virgin Birth. Here is the Scripture warning and the promised judgment: “ For if he that Cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well hear with him.— For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is ho great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteouspess; whose end shall be according to their works” (2 Cor. 11:4, 13, 14, 15). It was “ a new interpretation” of the Bible that caught my attention as a university student with Unitarian ten dencies. There are many “ new translations,” “ new inter pretations,” and “ briefer Bibles,” against which the Bible gives a two-fold warning and a judgment: “ Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: hut holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2 Peter 1:20-21). “ But if our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In "whom the god of this, world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of. the glorious Gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them” (2 Cor. 4:3-4). “ For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 3 :11 ). Quite recently I read an article on “ The Enemies of Masonry” by a Grand Chaplain of that order. His conclu sion was that the enemies of Masonry are within the Masonic Lodge, beingj those who say either, (1) that there is no God, or (2) that there is no life beyond the grave. While Masonry is a club and not a church; it reminded me of a condition within the organized church. All the mem bers in any church may be divided into three groups: (1) those that are unsaved, (2) those who believe the Bible and are willing to fight for the faith, and (3) those who. are saved but are willing to join themselves with the unsaved, liberal, or worldly group. This third or middle group, it seems to me, are the real enemies of thC Christian Church, — the called out body of Christ. Salvation is the greatest possession in all the world. It is something we cannot buy; we cannot earn; it is a free gift. But along with it are certain responsibilities. One day the Son of God asked a rough fisherman this question: “ Whom say ye that I am?” Quickly the answer came: “ Thou art the Christ, the son of the living God.” And so the Princely Son of God, the Saviour of Men, looks down across the centuries and asks each one of us: “ Whom say ye that I am?” Will you put your candle under a bushel, or will you answer at did Peter: “ Thou art the Christ, the son of the living God” ? ‘ dlh ■S1&. M M THIS IS THE VICTORY THAT OVERCOMETH THE WORLD, EVEN OUR FAITH 1 John 6:4. Here are the factors of victory: a yielded heart, a tender conscience, a listening ear, a quick confession, and a con tinual claiming of the Spirit’s help. Then we may go for ward, day after day, feeding upon the Word, and quietly confident that we are becoming conformed to His image, as we walk in His blessed company and employ.
