W e often bonder why men do not wel­ come such good news as the Gospel and embrace' it immediately. What hinders? 1. World-standing.—John 5 :44. 2. Ignorance.—Rom. 10:3. 3. Thoughtlessness.—Isa. 1 :3. 4. Worldliness.—1 John 2:15-17. 5. Stubbornness.—Heb. 3 :7, 8. 6. Depravity.—Rom. 3 :10-18. 7. Delay.—Acts 24 :25.— S. Walking With God Enoch walked with God. —Gen. 5 :22 Walking implies— 1. Life. A corpse cannot walk.—Gal. 5 :?5. 2. Will. The body cannot rise to say naught of walking without willing. 3. Vigor. A paralytic, an invalid may crawl but not walk. —John 10:10. 4. A Path, foothold, rock, confidence—• (Ps. 40:2). 5. Progress. —Prov. 4:18. 6. A Destination, definite end.—Ps. 23 : 6.—S. The Silent Christ “ So he opened not his mouth." —Isa. 53:7 There are many things hard to under­ stand; things that stumble us; prayers that seem unheard. The heavens are silei« Why?— 1., Because o f mere and flippant curi­ osity.—Luke 23 :9. 2. Because of vacilation—no fixed pur­ pose to act on truth revealed.—John 19:9. 3. Because of predetermined perversity; and will to wrest the truth revealed.—Matt. 26:63. 4. Because the natural man cannot re­ ceive or know the things of God.—1 Cor. 2 :14. 5. Because we cannot bear as yet further light.—John 16:12. 6. Because it is not God’s season to un­ fold His purpose.*—Acts 1:7.

Jesus Knocking at the Door Behold, I stand at the door and knock .— Rev. 3:20. The text applies primarily to the Laodi­ cean, the apostate church of the “last days.” But it is truly applied to non-believers. 1. “ Behold!" Listen! 2. W ho? “ I,” Jesus, think of that. 3. Whose? Yours, any man’s door. 4. When? Now-—“ I am standing.” Pres­ ent tense. 5. H ow ? By His Word, “Voice” ; the preacher, His hand; by His providences— good and evil. 6. Why? To bless you, “I will come in and sup with him and he with me.” ,7. What? The door equals a barrier; equalling sin; perverse will. Remove it. Let Him in.-— S. The Half Not Told “ The half was not told me." —1 Kings 10:7.
