to God. “How does a Jew pray?” I asked. “At the window with our faces turned to ward the East,” she replied. “Why?” “ I suppose because Jerusalem, our holy city and temple, lies there.” “ Is it perhaps be cause you need a sacrifice before coming to God in prayer and that is the offering place?” “Ah, yes, the offering place, but where is the altar and the offering?” Then I pointed them to Calvary and the Lamb of God, showing how God had shut up every other way. The girl listened so eagerly to it all and then, turning her face toward her mother, said, “ I believe it is true, mama.” “ Do you believe Jesus Christ is your Messiah, that He died for your sins ?” “ Yes.” The mother just looked stunned and had not a word to say. She could not be angry with her dying child. Who knows what may have been passing in her mind and heart! Let us pray that the testimony of her child may mean the salvation of her soul also. I’ve been in missions and churches, too, but you are the first man I have met who talked with me about my soul.” Among the sailors, San Pedro is spoken of as the “ religious port” whenever mentioned .in other ports. W e pray and need prayers so very much that there may be an awakening among the many who know not Christ as their personal Saviour. O ne of the workers witnessed a sweet little scene wherein a young fellow of a group of three or four accepted Christ, while his companions listened, and watched. He was a big, strong fellow and on ap proaching him the worker found no antag onistic.spirit in him towards the Gospel as first expected. “ I never have been born again,” he said. “I want to accept Christ,” was his answer as the truth was presented and the invitation given him. She was a dear young girl, perhaps twenty years of age. So frail, it seemed that nothing was left but her beautiful eyes. They were so large and brilliant. When I told her I was a Jewess her face lighted up, for was I not one of her own? Then quickly and simply as I could I told her about my Lord. The mother, from whom I expected opposition, sat quietly by while the daughter drank in every word. The same afternoon several of us knelt in prayer for her, claiming God’s promise in Matthew 18:19. As we arose from our knees, each one had the assurance of the girl’s salvation, so we praised Him for it. Two days later we called at the sanitarium and saw the girl and her mother again. She was very sick. The doctor gave no hope, the mother said they were praying T OS ANGELES HARBOR has the dis- " tinction of being the only harbor in the United States showing an increase in cus toms receipts. The decrease of arrivals of lumber-carrying vessels was counteracted by a greater number o f deep-sea vessels ar riving. The first passenger ship from New York is due in a few days. New trade routes are being formed almost every week connecting this port with every important seaport on the Gulf and East coast of the United States especially. M uch prayer is needed for His continued blessing upon the ministry of His Word among these men coming from every clime. Ours is the privilege of intercession, and our greatest need in this field! Though magazines and worldly newspapers are sup plied by seaman’s missions in different har bors, one man told the worker, “ I am fifty years of age and have been all around the
