RUSSELL l Kane Sibley, also known as The Chainsaw Artist, will be one of demonstra-
tors entertaining the crowds at the up- coming Russell Fair.

Sibley worked with wood all his life. After he studied Fine Art at Fanshawe College he specialized in wood sculpting using mainly chainsaws. For the last four years he has fo- cused on speed carving in public. Visitors to the Russell Fair can watch his creations take shape in what is as much per- formance art as visual art. His carvings are based on local wildlife, people and history. The performances are described as visually stimulating and interactive for observers. Reviews of his work are enthusiastic and audience members have been amazed by the speed, accuracy and beauty of his carv- ing. The fair runs September 5-8 and features entertainment for everyone. The Sam Rob- erts band plays on Friday night, and other entertainers include Judy Foodie, the Flying Fools High Dive Show, bands Jane’s Party, Switch Gears, local band The Front End, the Rain Man, and Straight Up. Also planned are open mic, talent competitions, and Deal or No Deal. There will also be plenty of trad- itional agricultural events such as the Agri- Village, Education Day, Super Gymkhana, Demolition Derby, Classic Auto and Bike Show, Tractor Pull and Garden Tractor Pull, and numerous side shows.

RUSSELL l The Russell Male Choir, a group of retired men who love to sing, is seeking a new director, as previous director Neville Brown has taken a leave of absence for health reasons. Andrew Watson and Hea- ther Koss-Huisman have stepped in for the interim, but with a num- ber of concert dates approaching, including the Russell Fair, the choir hopes to have a director in place by mid-August. For 15 years the choir has entertained in churches, retire- ment communities, nursing homes, and at special events. Most concerts are during the day and this year the group has been to 23 concerts in Ot- tawa, Vernon, North Gower, Kempt- ville, Winchester, Morrisburg, Finch, St. Albert, Maxville, Ramsayville and other locations.
