Nothing was stole since it was empty as the new owners had not moved in yet. August 11, shortly before 3 p.m. police received a re- port of a break and enter at a Laurier Street residence. Someone had broken into the apartment between August 9 and 11 by entering through a window. An XBOX 360 game console was stolen. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Mc- Clements. Thefts in Alfred-Plantagenet Police were called August 10 for the theft of two ornamental lions from a Station Road residence driveway during the Civic Holiday weekend. Constable Chantal Duchesne was called to a County Road 24 resi- dence August 11 to investigate the theft of a boat motor that had been displayed for sale near the road. The theft of the 9.9-h.p. Mer- cury outboard motor would have occurred sometime during the previous week. Fraud charge The quick intervention of Royal Bank employees resulted in the arrest of a St-Hubert man August 9. Police say a man presented himself at the branch under a false name requesting to withdraw a large amount of money from a bank account. When there were issues with the man’s identity, employees called police. Constable Jean-Michel Cormier investigated and discovered the suspect was indeed using someone else’s identity. He would have been able to withdraw a large amount of money the previous day from a bank in Embrun. John Michael Meehan, 34, of 1755 Bernard St., St- Hubert, Québec was charged with two counts of uttering a forged document, two counts of impersonation, two counts of fraud, and identity theft. He was later released and is to appear at the court in L’Orignal September 12.

The torching of an impounded truck is among the crimes currently being investi- gated by the Hawkesbury Ontario Provin- cial Police detachment. Police were called to a towing compound situated at 2449 Highway 34 in Champlain Township where a truck had been set on fire sometime between July 24 and 25. The determined arsonist cut a chain linked fence to enter the compound and set fire to a black 2001 Ford Explorer truck. There was extensive damage caused to the vehicle. Anyone with information about this inci- dent is asked to call Constable Dominique Sauvé at the Hawkesbury OPP at 613-632- 2729. This Week in Policing During the week of August 7 to 13, the detachment responded to 213 occur- rences and laid 23 charges. Officers inves- tigated three assaults, six break-ins, and five thefts. There were no impaired driving related charges laid. Rash of break-ins August 7, shortly after 5 p.m. a break and enter at a building under renovation, at Lansdowne and Laurier Streets, Hawkes- bury was reported. The culprits took boards of Styrofoam insulation. Anyone with information is asked to cal Constable Shawn McClements. Sometime between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. August 9, crooks lifted a medium-sized safe containing money and official docu- ments from a Séguin Street, Hawkesbury residence.
