Opening the door, a small girl about four years old stepped abruptly into the church. She was clothed in pa jamas and bathrobe. “ Oh,” she said, sweeping a glance at the group in the choir loft, “ I didn’t know all these children were here.” Undaunted, she walked up on the platform, stopped, placed a tiny finger on her lips and continued her soliloquy. “Uh, oh! Here I am and I’m in trouble. I’ve just had a bath and I ought to be home in bed.” “You’d better go,” I agreed, plac ing my arms around her shoulders. “Your mama will be concerned about you. Be sure to take your tricycle as you go down the walk.” “ I will. Bye. I’ll be back.” At home after church I began to think about our little friend. For one so young she had a fine vocabu lary and an excellent appreciation of her predicament. Once inside the church, a “ foreign soil” to her, she became frightened. She didn’t feel “ at home,” perhaps because her mother was missing from the scene. Mother! Oh, will she spank me? I’m not supposed to be here. I should be in bed. An observer could almost see the “wheels” turning in her head as the little miss thought through her situation. I had the dis tinct feeling that this is more than can be said for many “ lost” adults. How thoroughly Satan does his nefarious job of blinding the eyes of men’s understanding that they cannot comprehend the truth! How great is the responsibility of the Christian community to sow the seed of the Gospel! The little “ lost” friend who wan dered into the church that Lord’s Day evening set me to thinking about my witness. Do lost men in the orbit of my world see Jesus Christ in me? Do they learn any thing of His love from my life? There is no time to waste. “ . . . . now is the accepte'd time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (II Cor. 6:2). how I love to proclaim
