U n iq u e among Christian musical aggregations is the Sac red Caravan Singers featuring Dean and Mary Jean Brown. This talented group of Christian young people was first organized by the gifted Brown couple as a means of utiliz ing dedicated abilities for the Lord. Distinctive musical arrangements were prepared by Mary Jean, who, featured at the piano, usually directs the choir from the keyboard. The husband-wife musi cal team was regularly featured at the historic Monday Musicals in Pasadena which were conducted by Phil Kerr before his homegoing some years ago. According to Dean, “Our prime motive is to present Christ through the medium of sacred music. In ad dition, it provides an outlet for the talents of many wonderful Gospel musicians.” While programs are not designed to entertain, Dean is care ful to point out that they are also not intended to be typical church worship services. They are unique testimony meetings designed to in spire and c ha l l eng e the heart through the means of music. The choral members come from a number of different cities through out Southern California. Everyone is active in his or her own church. A number of different denomina
tions are represented in the group. Dean is featured soloist with the singers, both in their public per formances as well as in their albums, the latest of which is “ The Caravan Singers: Songs the American Folk Sing.” An earlier recording pro duced by Sacred Records is simply en t i t l ed “ Caravan Singers.” The group is presently under contract to Zondervan Records.
