Employee Handbook

You must hang the orange ‘checked and evacuated’ sign outside your door every time you leave the room/apartment.

Fire System There is a comprehensive fire alarm system in all our buildings, with control panels, break glass points and fire extinguishers located around the buildings and near the fire exits. Emergency Response Team (ERT) An ERT has been established in all accommodation areas and members are trained to manage a full evacuation. A list of team members’ names is posted in your accommodation. Discovering a Fire Should you discover a fire, immediately raise the alarm by breaking the nearest ‘Fire Break Glass Call Point’. Personally inform a Security Officer or a member of your ERT. • Identify yourself by name and explain the exact location of the fire or smoke. • Describe the situation of the fire or smoke, and report injury, if any. • Move directly to the assembly point and wait for the arrival of the Fire Service Department.

If trained, fight the fire by using the fire extinguisher situated in each floor.

Use water on all solid materials like paper, textile fabrics, wood, etc. but DO NOT USE WATER on live electrical apparatus or inflammable liquids.

Use CO2 gas or dry powder on inflammable liquids and electrical apparatus.

If the area is filled with smoke, stay low in a crawling position to prevent smoke inhalation. Fresh air is normally close to the floor.

Do not put your life in danger. If the fire is out of control or if you are in doubt as to your safety, leave the area closing all doors and windows behind you, go to the nearest fire exit and proceed to the assembly point.

Do not re-enter the building until you are told it is safe.

Make yourself familiar with all the fire escape routes and positions of the break glass alarm.

Upon Hearing the Fire Alarm Should you hear the fire alarm sound, please evacuate your room/apartment immediately. Ensure you place the orange ‘checked and evacuated’ sign on the outside of your door. Leave the building via the nearest emergency exit and make your way to the Assembly Point. At the Assembly Point you will find a member of the Fire Evacuation Team, please report to them and co-operate with any instructions the team member may give to you.
