Meet the Minister If you’re a house builder eager to discuss burning issues with the most relevant decision-maker in Wales, now is your chance. Twice a year, the FMB arranges for a handful of house building members to meet with Julie James MS, the Minister for Climate Change (housing is part of her portfolio), to discuss key issues affecting house builders in Wales. From changes to Part L of the Building Regulations to mandating Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) on new developments – and everything in between – you can have your say. If you’re a house builder and wish to contribute to these meetings, contact the FMB Cymru team at wales@fmb.org.uk.

Members shine in festival limelight August is festival time in Edinburgh, with the FMB once again involved in the Green Home Festival and the Edinburgh Traditional Building Festival. Our message at both was loud and clear: whether it’s a new kitchen, garden office, home improvements or retrofit works, the public should always seek professional, reputable and competent contractors. Alan Macaulay of James Alan Construction Ltd, a panellist at one of the shows at the Green Home Festival, said: “I enjoyed sharing some of my knowledge and experiences with fellow panellists, which included host of TV show Scotland’s Home of the Year Anna Campbell-Jones. The festival gave the FMB the chance to air key messages to the public and I know that other members who got involved felt it was very much worth taking time away from the day job to spread the word on behalf of the wider membership.” The Green Home Festival – delivered by the Construction Industry Collective Voice (CICV), which the FMB is a key member of – featured contributions from Home Energy Scotland, Scottish Water, architects, heat pump installers, and members Alan Macaulay, Gary Finnie and Alastair Raitt. Later in the month at the Edinburgh Traditional Building Festival, Gavin Richardson from HM Raitt & Sons Ltd gave a practical sash and case window demonstration to members of the public. Both these festivals are part of the world-famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Thanks to Alan, Gary, Alastair and Gavin for their help. By the time you receive this magazine, we will be planning our involvement in next year’s festivals. Get in touch if you would like to get involved.
