CITB pilots its new network

The power of Area Boards

We all know how important training is in our industry but many businesses – particularly smaller firms – miss out on these upskilling opportunities because of the complexity involved in accessing grants and funding from CITB. So CITB has set up an Employer Network Pilot service in Lincolnshire and Norfolk to provide a streamlined 'done for you' service. Graham Winter of FMB member Graham Winter Builders Ltd has already reaped the benefits of the initiative. Like many, Graham found little time to navigate the maze of CITB grant paperwork whilst having to take care of his business’ daily operations. The Lincolnshire pilot, with assistance from Steve Taylor at Lincoln Group Training Association, provided Graham's team with fully-funded, hassle-free training. Graham says: “For contractors or their teams eyeing these courses, I'd recommend contacting the CITB or FMB.” Another recipient of training support is Jon Portess of FMB member firm ST Portess & Son. He says: "The grant scheme was once challenging, but the new approach is seamless. We're aligned with LGTA, and Steve is our training anchor. Both Steve and Carole (CITB’s Lincolnshire Advisor) excel in their roles." The Lincolnshire pilot engaged 71 previously inactive firms in its first year, many of which are FMB members. Similar success has been enjoyed in Norfolk under CITB Advisor Amy Gardner. If you're CITB-registered in Lincolnshire or Norfolk, now’s the time to explore CITB grants. Seize this opportunity to improve our collective skill set. The project's success could reshape the national grant system, which would benefit Master Builders. For more details, contact FMB Central Director, Nicola de Sousa on the details below. The FMB is run by members for members. At the local level, there are 10 Area Boards across the UK, made up of elected FMB members. Each Area Board has 14 Master Builders who have been elected by members in the corresponding nation or region. Area Boards meet regularly to identify and discuss local issues in the building sector and to make recommendations on how the FMB can best support members. There are three area boards in the FMB North Hub: Yorkshire & Trent, Northern Counties and North West, with all of them having met in September. If you’d like to find out more about what was discussed, please contact FMB North Director Caroline Meehan. Find out which members are on your Area Board by visiting bit.ly/MB-NorthAB
