London Board battles ULEZ The London Board continues to meet with Transport for London (TfL) to discuss the divisive topic of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in the hopes of securing better support for SME builders in London. The FMB is providing a loud voice for so many who are struggling with the change. Additionally, London Board members have been debating the key issue of whether CITB could provide a bursary for young people wanting to start a career in construction. Funding would improve retention and support these young recruits to complete their education and pursue a career in the industry.

The FMB, alongside the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and South London Partnership, recently hosted an event at Croydon College to promote construction to the workforce’s next generation. Three schools from the local area were invited to participate in practical experiences such as bricklaying, carpentry and retrofit. The event was a success, with the students commenting on how much they enjoyed getting out of their seats and using their hands for a change. The FMB and its members will continue to raise awareness of the benefits that a career in construction can bring. It really is a fantastic career path. Constructing with Croydon College
