CLIMATE CHANGE

The Zumtobel Group’s implementation of actions in relation to the Climate Transition Plan depends in part on the technologi- cal development of the Group’s business partners as well as the decarbonisation of the energy mix, including outside the EU. According to current estimates, this will not require significant additional expenditure because these measures are integrated into continuous improvement processes and the ongoing innovation process and will be implemented within the framework of exis- ting organisational and financial resources. The implementation of the decarbonisa- tion levers is based on planned operating expenditure (OpEx) and capital expenditure (CapEx) relating to continuous improve- ments and ongoing innovation processes for the product and service portfolio. However, future expenditure is contingent on the de- velopment of external market factors and is therefore subject to a degree of uncertainty.

The emission reduction targets of the Zumtobel Group validated by the SBTi are as follows:

E1-4, T1 | To reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 66% by 2030/31 compared with the 2020/21 base year (baseline: 21,496 tCO 2 e). E1-4, T2 | To reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions by 42% by 2030/31 compa- red with the 2022/23 base year (baseli- ne: 16,903,947 tCO 2 e). E1-4, T3 | Net-Zero: To reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% by 2050/51 compared with the 2020/21 base year (baseline: 21,496 tCO 2 e) E1-4, T4 | Net-Zero: To reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions by 90% by 2050/51 compared with the 2022/23 base year (baseline: 16,903,947 tCO 2 e).

Targets related to climate change mitigation [E1-4]

The share of the stated emission reduction targets in Scope 1 and 2, both for the target year 2030/31 and for the Net-Zero target in 2050/51, relates to 20% of Scope 1 and 80% of Scope 2. The Scope 2 target comprises market-based emissions. The targets set for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions are consistent with the boundaries of the GHG inventory. The description of the methodology used to calculate gross GHG emissions is set out in the section ‘Gross Scopes 1, 2, 3 and Total GHG emissions [E1-6]’.

As a global manufacturing company, the Zumtobel Group is committed to reducing its impacts on climate change on the basis of SBTi science-based targets. In light of this, the Group is committed to reducing emissi- ons throughout the value chain to Net-Zero by 2050/51. Reduction targets for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions were set as milestones for the period up to 2030/31. These reducti- ons are directly linked to the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees set forth in the Paris Agreement. With regard to the SBTi targets, the Zumtobel Group measures its progress against two base years: 2020/21 for Scopes 1 & 2 and 2022/23 for Scope 3. The base years differ due to the availability of the required data.
