A PEEK INTO LIFE WITH MY AWESOME WIFE Happy First Mother’s Day, Marah!

2021 MAY

Before our son Bennett was born, my wife Marah was worried. Would she

Example No. 2 came right after Bennett was born. He had an issue with his breathing, so he had to go to the NICU for a bit. (Don’t worry, he’s fine now!) The nurses whisked him away, and an hour and a half later, they told me I could go and check on him. Since Marah had only been able to hold him for a few minutes, she wanted to come along.

be a good mom? Would we be able to pull off the

full-time job of parenthood? I was freaking out, too, but I did my best to make her feel better. Marah has always had an amazing zest for life, and I just knew that even if I was a disaster dad, she would be a great mom.

“Alright, let’s go!” she said. She hopped out of bed and was on her way to the NICU when a nurse stopped us.

“Hey! Didn’t you just have a baby less than two hours ago?” she said. “Let me get you a wheelchair!”

Unsurprisingly, I was right! Her strength, resilience, and capability as a mother blew me away from the minute we got to the hospital. Example No. 1: She delivered Bennett without any pain medication. It was intense to watch, and I can’t even imagine how it felt. The experience showed me exactly why men aren’t made to have babies. Marah was a rock star, but I would have passed out after the first contraction!

That’s my wife in a nutshell: strong, determined, and ready to do anything for her baby.

When Bennett arrived, Marah’s worries fell away and her mama instincts kicked in. Now, she’s the calming force in our house. She rarely stresses or worries, and she seems to know exactly what to do even though we’re first-time parents. Luckily, Bennett makes it easy. He rarely wakes up more than once each night, and he’s a happy baby. Most days Marah is able to stay home with him until 11 a.m. or noon and then bring him into the Chiro1Source office. While she works, everyone passes him around and takes turns loving on him. If you ever hear a baby cooing or crying in the background when you call our team, now you know why! Marah’s connection with Bennett is incredible, and I can’t get enough of watching the two of them together. Some of my favorite moments are when they both fall asleep on the couch after a long day. Bennett definitely got his ability to conk out quickly from his mama. (I think Marah has only ever made it through two or three full movies on that couch without nodding off.) Their eyes are the same shade of blue, too, and Bennett’s nose looks just like Marah’s did in her baby pictures. Pretty much all he got from me is my forehead, and thank God it turned out that way! I’m obsessed with Bennett, of course, but that’s nothing compared to a mother’s love. Marah, if you’re reading this, thank you for everything you do as a mom.

You’re absolutely amazing, and the little man and I hardly deserve you. Happy First Mother’s Day!

MARCH IN PLACE Marching is a great way to start slowly increasing your heart rate. Start by standing in place then lifting the legs up in a steady march, lifting each knee as high as you can without losing your balance. Make sure that you are also pumping your arms in time with your feet. For the best outcome, lift your legs 20 times. SIDE STEPS Start by standing in the middle of the room with plenty of space for you to step left and right. Take a side step in one direction, then two side steps in the opposite direction, then move back two steps. If you’re worried about keeping your

Charlotte Figi, has an amazing story. She struggled with Dravet syndrome as a little girl, a rare form of epilepsy that could cause up to 300 seizures per week. Her mother, Paige, searched high and low for something that could help her daughter, and along the way, she discovered CBD. In 2012, Paige thought that a high-CBD hemp source could be a game-changer for Charlotte, so she found the Stanleys — seven brothers who farmed hemp and offered Charlotte a rare high-CBD extract. It worked! Her symptoms were effectively relieved, and several years later, the company Charlotte’s Web was born. That one small girl inspired a movement around CBD that we’re proud to be part of. A few months ago, we officially partnered with Charlotte’s Web to provide their full spectrum of hemp extracts, gummies (for calm, sleep, and recovery), and liquid capsules to chiropractors like you.

balance, try doing this within an arm’s length of a wall so you can reach out to steady yourself, and remember to keep your back straight. Repeat 20 times.

SEATED ROWS While sitting in a chair, keep your spine straight and shoulders back. Extend your arms until they’re out in front of you, parallel with the floor. Using your shoulder and back muscles, pull your arms toward you then back out in front, as though you were rowing a canoe. Repeat this exercise 8–10 times. DANCE Dancing is a great cardio exercise and plenty of fun too! Pick your favorite dance style and start moving those feet. Some styles, such as ballet or hip-hop, can be more challenging, especially if your mobility is limited. However, freestyle is plenty of fun too. No matter how you choose to dance and

whether you’re by yourself, with a friend, or with your spouse, turn on some music and start grooving to your favorite tunes. A Note on Safety: Before you get started on any exercises, make sure that the space around you is safe. Give yourself plenty of room to move around so you don’t have to worry about bumping into furniture and accidentally hurting yourself. If you’re an older adult, be sure to have a stable surface nearby just in case. A chair, for example, can help you steady yourself if you begin to lose your balance.

Despite the misinformation out there, CBD is safe and effective. It doesn’t cause a euphoric effect, and Charlotte’s Web products are either THC-free or contain only trace amounts of THC (less than .3%). They can be real assets for chiropractors and patients. “CBD is well-researched for its ability to help support a sense of calm and focus, manage occasional stress, support normal sleep cycles, and also recover from exercise-induced inflammation,” says Jen Palmer, naturopathic doctor and director of education for Charlotte’s Web.

You probably know all about the classic ways to find new patients: print marketing, email newsletters, SEO, social media ads, etc. But a few months ago, we came across a company doing something game- changing in the marketing space for health care professionals. It’s called New Patient Generator (NPG). NPG was designed specifically to help businesses in the natural health care industry gain more patients and grow their practices. And the marketing company was started by a chiropractor, Dr. Colin Swala, so he knows his stuff and the industry!

We chose Charlotte’s Web because it is committed to extensive research and testing. Its products are manufactured in cGMP- compliant facilities that meet high quality standards, and are tested for quality and purity 20-plus times, from seed to shelf. Charlotte’s Web also controls its entire supply chain from farm to market and is even a certified B-Corp, which is a business standard established by the nonprofit B Lab “to balance profit and purpose.” “Not all CBD is created equal,” says Charlotte’s Web distribution manager Brian Grosso. “We have a full team of plant geneticists and plant biologists making sure our patented genetics are the same year over year, so the product is the same and the results that can be expected batch over batch are the same for the end user.”

Dr. Colin and his team use a content-focused marketing approach and leverage a trusted, third-party brand called Family Health Advocacy (FHA) to promote their clients. NPG prides itself on having no contracts or setup fees, a lead guarantee, campaigns that educate, and a history of attracting patients who stay and refer. “We really want to prop up the practitioner and really showcase their knowledge on specific topics,” Dr. Colin says. “It’s common in marketing to lead with an offer, you know, like an examination at a reduced rate. Yes, we include that, but what’s more important is being able to deliver high-quality content as part of it as well. We feel doing it that way produces better quality patients for chiropractors.” What we appreciate about NPG is that they position the chiropractors they work with as experts in the field as an endorsement versus trying to sell to their audiences. The FHA brand and its natural health blog have 85,000 followers on Facebook, so they essentially lend their social proof and credibility to their clients.

This is just the tip of the CBD iceberg. To learn more about Charlotte’s Web and shop their products, visit Chiro1Source.com!

“People look into Family Health Advocacy and see a credible brand, and we can endorse these practitioners, so it’s a different angle,” Dr. Colin says, adding that this keeps health care professionals from “looking desperate” for patients. Dr. Colin is based in Canada but works with chiropractors all over the world to promote their services. We plan to collaborate with him on webinars in the future, so keep an eye out for that announcement! Your business might be doing well, but if your workforce doesn’t feel any sort of personal connection to your business’s mission, that could prevent lasting success. You want to boost employee morale and make them happy about their work. To reinvigorate your employees’ passion for your business’s mission, try a few of these tips. WALK THE TALK. Patagonia CEO Yvon Chouinard decided to make his products out of organic cotton after he saw how industrially grown cotton was hurting the environment. It cost more to do that, but he stuck to Patagonia’s mission of creating environmentally friendly products. If you’re not willing to sacrifice for your mission, then it’s not your mission — and your employees will know it. MAKE IT CLEAR. Make sure everyone at your company knows exactly what your mission is. Only when employees have a clear understanding of the goal can they actually abide by it. If your mission statement can be interpreted in multiple ways, clarify it throughout all levels of your business. SPEAK PASSIONATELY ABOUT IT. While you want the mission itself to be exciting, even the most intriguing of mission statements will be DOA if your delivery Connecting Your Employees to Your Mission MAKING YOUR PASSIONS THEIR PASSIONS

doesn’t convey your excitement. Humans are emotional creatures, so connecting with your employees emotionally in regard to your mission is just as important as the mission itself. MAKE IT PERSONAL. While you might think tying your personal story to the company’s mission seems narcissistic, the truth is that your team wants to hear your story. People like stories, and if you can convey yours with honesty and humility, no one will think you’re an egoist. RE-WORK IT. If your mission doesn’t seem to be inspiring passion in your workforce, then maybe it’s time to tweak it a little bit. Whether you’re just starting in business or have had the same mission statement for 10 years, a new mission lived out, made clear, and made personal by you can spark a newfound appreciation for your business among your employees.
