EXFO’s AXS-130 Compact OTDR The AXS-130 Compact OTDR sets a new standard for fibre optic field testing, delivering powerful performance in a portable design - EXFO Optimised for FTTx deployments and metro network troubleshooting, the AXS-130 includes triple-wavelength capability (1310, 1550, and 1650 nm) and we were pleased to see an impressive dynamic range of up to 39dB. Ease of use is a standout feature. The integrated Optical Link Mapper (OLM) simplifies OTDR trace interpretation, allowing technicians with perhaps less on-the-job experience to diagnose network issues quickly. Features like automated macrobend detection, real-time monitoring and a consolidated link view with clear pass/fail indicators minimise the learning curve and boost field efficiency. The AXS-130’s rugged build and 4-inch high-visibility touchscreen make it ideal for outdoor use. A Swap-Out connector we are told is field-replaceable, as well as an all-day battery (>10 hours) we see would reduce downtime and ongoing maintenance costs—a clear nod to practical field challenges. Additional in-line tools like the light source, power checker and visual fault locator (VFL) are integrated, meaning technicians carry less gear without sacrificing capability. The AXS-130 supports live fibre troubleshooting, high-count PON testing (up to 1x128 splitters) and seamless cloud integration through EXFO Exchange. Our testers felt that the combination of robust hardware and intelligent software ensured superior reporting, collaboration and network compliance management. We really liked the thoughtful touches like real-time dynamic event capture; the AXS-130 ticks a lot of boxes as a tool for network operators and contractors alike. Compact yet feature-rich, it's perfectly suited to modern fibre deployment and maintenance needs.
