What got you interested in a career in broadband/ telecoms and how did you get started? I never planned to work in Telecoms or Business Development for that matter. My first and only job in the UK after my degree was in Petersfield as a trainee branch manager at Lloyds Bank. That lasted 8 months when I decided to move to Rheims, France in 1985 to be with my wife to be, whom I had met during my year out in Badajoz, Spain as an English language assistant. This was part of my Spanish and Management BA at the University of Leeds. From 1985 to ’90 I worked in several very different companies

in sales and marketing positions (pharmaceuticals, syringe pumps,

enamels, industrial mills, automobile spare parts) and finally landed a job in export sales with Tonna Electronique, a key company manufacturing amplifiers for the French CATV national build or Plan Câble as it was called. After two years I left Tonna and started with Cabelcon, Denmark in 1992 to develop their sales in Southern Europe and then later to become sales director for EMEA. Cabelcon was and still is an incredible company manufacturing high quality coaxial connectors for the telecoms industry. So the interest in telecoms was, to be honest, about getting a decent job. However once in telecoms I discovered a dynamic, innovative and fascinating environment.
