Over 90% of the more than 3.5 million federal workers cov - ered by President Joe Biden’s Covid vaccine mandate will have received at least one dose by the government’s deadline, ac - cording to senior administration official, commenting on the Nov. 22 deadline for all federal workers to complete their Covid shots. The federal workforce has reached 95% compliance with the requirement between those who have received at least one vaccine dose and employees who’ve filed for an exception or a deadline extension, the official added. Federal personnel who haven’t gotten immunized against the virus or submitted proof of vaccination could eventually be fired, according to guidance published on the Safer Federal Workforce Task Force’s website. S tate officials from California to Maine are allowing their adult res - idents to get a Covid-19 vaccine booster, against guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which approved third doses last month for certain Pfizer and Moderna recipients at least six months after completing their first two shots, to reserve the shots for the elderly and other high-risk groups. Arkansas, Colorado, Louisi - ana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, New Mexico, Vermont and West Virginia are promoting the widespread rollout of boosters for any fully vaccinat - ed adult. New York and Rhode Island are asking adults in elevated-ex - posure areas to get boosted, while New Jersey and Minnesota are planning to expand eligibility in the days ahead. D octors are urging caution to prevent Covid-19 outbreaks as cases rise nationwide following a nearly three-week plateau and Americans prepare to celebrate Thanks - giving with friends and family this week. The U.S. recently reported a seven-day average of nearly 95,000 new Covid infections, up 31% over the past two weeks, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Cases across the country declined for weeks this fall before hovering between 70,000 and 75,000 per day beginning in late October, down more than 50% from the peak of the delta surge that ravaged the U.S. this summer.
