Scotiabank commits CDN600K in support of scholarships at The UWI At the 14th Annual UWI Toronto Benefit Awards held at the Ritz Carlton on April 29, 2023, Scotiabank, Lead Sponsor of the event since its inception in 2010, committed CDN600,000 to support The UWI’s scholarship programme over the next six years. The UWI Toronto Benefit Awards receives tremendous support from the Canadian corporate sector, continuing in the tradition of the long and rich relationship between The University of the West Indies and Canada.

Cave Hill Launches 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Celebrations Launched with an interfaith service and followed by a campus- wide parade, the activities to celebrate Cave Hill’s 60th anniversary got off to a rousing start. The milestone year includes a blue- ribbon Legacy Lecture Series themed “Building Resilience, Building Nations” , and featured a lineup of UWI scholars and thought leaders from across various disciplines. Monthly parish hikes and frequent bus tours took eager participants on heritage focused trails across Barbados. Early childhood literacy is also being addressed with a reading programme in collaboration with the Barbados National Library Service and the charity Kids in Action. Additional community engagement and environmental activities, such as beach clean-ups, are scheduled for the remainder of the year. UWI Scientists Involved in Global Cancer Study Two scientists from the Cave Hill Campus are among a team of 16 transnational investigators involved in a global cancer study with groundbreaking implications. The Cave Hill co-principals are the Director of the George Alleyne Chronic Disease Research Centre and Coordinator of the MPhil & PhD programmes in Public Health, Dr. Natalie Greaves. World-class Support for Students UWI students are set to benefit from a strategic partnership with Deloitte & Touche, which underpins the provision of scholarships and programmes to enhance their workforce readiness. The “World Class Initiative” is part of the company’s social responsibility programme. Bridgetown–Caracas Cultural Exchanges An agreement with the National Experimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE) of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is now in place to facilitate cultural education, training, and artistic
