Students experience International Trade Finance with African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) Graduates of the Master’s in International Trade Policy (MITP) Adiella Lewis and Brettney Romeo were the first awardees in the internship programme with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank). The Afreximbank specialises in providing trade finance to the African continent to develop and promote trade in Africa. Dukes Agricultural Research Park to Advance Food Sovereignty in the Caribbean A groundbreaking ceremony marked another milestone towards the launch of the Dukes Agricultural Research Park at Dukes St. Thomas. The project, which is funded through a generous bilateral grant between the People’s Republic of China and the Government of Barbados, will support training, research, and innovation in the agricultural sector. The UWI/RBC Race for the Kids Returned to the Road After three years of virtual races, the Campus was excited to return to hosting the annual Scholarship Fundraiser 5K Walk/ Run. On March 12, 2023 more than 1,500 participants enjoyed an evening of family fun and entertainment for a very worthy cause. RBC’s Managing Director for Barbados, Shimon McIntosh, expressed extreme delight at the tremendous turnout. Pro Vice- Chancellor and Principal, Professor R. Clive Landis, also shared his excitement about the return to an in-person event, which raised BBD120,000. The Magic of Numbers Hundreds of students experienced the magic of numbers when renowned “Mathemagician” Professor Arthur Benjamin led a series of workshops hosted by the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics. The Professor, also known as the world’s fastest human calculator, shared exciting tips and tricks for quick calculations. Annual Financial Support for Research in Environmental Resilience and Sustainability On June 21, 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding between the UWI-CERMES and Harris Paints formalised the provision of an annual grant valued at USD20,000 for the next five years to assist research and improve access to postgraduate training in environmental resilience and sustainability.
