CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Bennett delivered the engaging feature presentation, highlighting the challenges, opportunities and risks associated with the effective functioning of the CSME. Frank Worrell Memorial Lecture Prime Minister of Barbados, The Honourable Mia Amor Mottley delivered the 22nd Frank Worrell Memorial Lecture, under the theme “Cricket Lovely Cricket — It is more than Bat and Ball” . Her discussion covered a range of challenges facing cricket in the Caribbean and recommendations for rebuilding the popular sport, including changes to community cricket and governance.

Signing of the Loan Agreement for Expansion of the Five Islands Campus The Five Islands Campus, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted the signing ceremony for the expansion of the Campus with the Saudi Fund for Development. The event took place on January 17, 2023 at the Campus Auditorium. The USD80 million loan agreement was signed by The Honourable Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda and His Excellency Sultan Abdulrahman A. Almarshad, Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Fund for Development. Witnessing the signing of the loan agreement were the Honourable Daryll Matthew, Minister of Education and Sports, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of The University of West Indies, Mr. Aziz Hadeed, Five Islands Campus Council Chairman, and Professor Densil A. Williams, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal. The Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, Sir Rodney Williams, KGN, GCMG, KStJ, MBBS, PhD (h.c.) was among the many well-wishers drawn from government, academia, the private sector and industry who were in attendance. A Steering Committee has been established, led by the Minister of Education, Sports and Creative Industries, to drive this expansion project. Ground is expected to be broken by the first quarter of 2024. Launch of The UWI Five Islands Campus/Calvin Ayre Foundation 75 Financial Care Project The UWI Five Islands Campus/Calvin Ayre Foundation 75 Financial Care Project is an initiative of the Five Islands Campus in celebration of The UWI 75th anniversary, which runs from January 1 to December 31, 2023. The Calvin Ayre Foundation partnered with The UWI Five Islands Campus on this initiative to provide bursaries and scholarships to students to cover the cost of their studies.
