What better way to celebrate International Women’s Day than to launch ticket sales of the Russell Ladies’ Night! Once again, the Russell Agricultural Society’s Ladies’ Night committee is teaming upwith Autism Canada to host the May 5 event under the theme Hats, Horses andWishes (a take on the world-famous Kentucky Derby ) at the Russell Arena. “We are grateful for the ongoing support of our sponsors and partners, the generous contribution of auction items and services donated by individuals and businesses, and the participation of the 550 ladies who attend our event every year,” said JudyMcFaul, co- chair of the 2017 Ladies’ Night committee. “Event planners, organizers, entertainers, honored guests and auctioneers all gracious- ly volunteer their time and skills towards our special cause.”

For details, visit the Russell Ladies’ Night Facebook page. “Again this year, the Russell Scotiabank branch is proud to team up with the La- dies’ Night event and will match the funds raised for AutismCanada up to amaximum of $5000,” said Lynne Rochon, event co-chair and Scotiabank account manager for small business. This event, for women only, consists of a silent auction, dinner, live auction and entertainment, and all of the money raised from the silent and live auctions will go to help fund research on autism to aid children and adults, and their caregivers, living with this lifelong condition. “We hope to use these funds to host our next scientific symposium,” said Laurel Gibbons, Autism Canada board director. As the largest Canadian autismassociation, Autism Canada feels a multi-disciplinary approach to research is important and neces- sary.Through these symposiums, the group brings together scientists, researchers and clinicians from across North America and Europe. “This piece of collaboration around the world is a key to solving the autism puzzle,” added Gibbons, who is also the mother of a child diagnosed with autism. “We know that autism is a neurobiological-based disorder and being such, there are no two cases that are exactly the same. Therefore, there is not a one-size-fits-all approach, it’s very indi- vidualized.” Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurobiological condition that impacts normal brain development, leav- ing most individuals with communication problems, difficulty with typical social in- teractions, and a tendency to repeat specific patterns of behavior. The term “spectrum” refers to a continuum of severity or devel- opmental impairment. Autism is a journey and for many it will last a lifetime. Depending on factors such as age, treatment and educational opportunity, many of the symptoms of ASD can get better over time. With appropriate intervention, many children and adults can be assisted to reach optimal health resulting inmeaningful outcomes. Since 2004, the Russell Agricultural So- ciety’s Ladies’ Night event has raised more than $350,000 for a wide array of causes.

Le 13 mars dernier, Léo Proulx de Saint-Isidore a atteint le but qu’il s’était fixé, soit celui de faire son 100 e don de sang avant l’âge de 65 ans. M.
