A Trip to the Promised Land
This year, with the largest group Word of Life has ever had, students made their way to the Promised Land, experiencing the real-life places they had been learning about all year in class. After spending one or two years studying and meditating on stories that took place over 2000 years ago across the ocean, students went to see it all for themselves. On this trip led by Mark Strout, students visited over 40 biblical sights, saw the latest in Bible archaeology, enjoyed daily time in God’s Word by the Sea of Galilee, and experienced the Bible through culture and geography in a way they never had before. Some of the trip highlights included visiting the Jezreel Valley, where Gideon led Israel to victory with what seemed like impossible odds, taking a boat ride in the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus performed many of His miracles, exploring Jericho, where the walls came tumbling down and viewing Shiloh, a place where the tabernacle rested in the Old Testiment. Students walked through the city of David, witnessed Jewish culture firsthand, and caught a glimpse of so many key locations from Jesus’ ministry. The Bible is full of real events, real people, and real hope. On this trip, students walked where these realities took place and witnessed the reality of Scripture. This once-in-a-lifetime trip changed the way in which these students viewed their relationship with the Lord and strengthened their love for Jesus.
