Word of Life Bible Institute Yearbook 2018

Todd & Rachel Palmer

Todd and Rachel are second year students, off-campus, and married. Todd loves fishing and Rachel is blessed with finding joy in “homemaking.” These two lovebirds met last year and wed over the summer. They haven’t been married all that long, but God has brought together a wonderful “power-couple” for His glory. Todd is 29 years old. He has worked as a school bus driver and served in the military! Todd almost went to college for baseball once but hated school. He left just a few weeks in. After that, he came to Word of Life for half a year, but decided to leave that too. Todd is a different man now. His life has been taken over by the relentless love of God. He was saved when he was younger but walked far away. He started to become more zealous in his relationship with the Lord when he was older. Rachel is 20 years old, was saved when she was 12, and knows a bit of Russian. She wanted to be a missionary at one point, but the “magnetic pull” of Word of Life wouldn’t drop her. She has been to the camps and has done Camp Crew. It almost seemed inevitable for her to come to WOLBI last year. But who would’ve thought they would be starting last summer with a wedding? It certainly wasn’t on their minds as they started the school year. Rachel even said, “I’m not going to get into a relationship this year.” But wow, God did His thing. Our minds are too small to comprehend the workings of God, especially when it comes to the future. Plenty of opposition came regarding their union. But Todd and Rachel saw the Lord working and saw how practical it would be for the two of them to get married sooner. They already knew that marriage was the intended goal of dating. They both wanted to do second year and they both desire to do missions, so why not “seal the deal” sooner? They knew they could work better for God’s purposes together. It seemed like “all the boxes were checked.” The months leading up to their engagement/marriage brought plenty of surprises. Rachel started to experience episodes of severe chest pain and fainting. These episodes could last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Doctors couldn’t tell her much, but they were able to determine that her life wasn’t threatened by what was happening. “If a doctor can’t help you, what are you supposed to do?” Rachel relayed what had felt like a sense of “hopelessness,” but again, God mightily provided at just the right time. Since Rachel started

seeing a chiropractor at the recommendation of a friend, her episodes have decreased dramatically.

Todd and Rachel are wonderful examples of testifying to God’s awesome timing. Circumstances come and go, but our God never changes.

Our minds are too small to comprehend the workings of God, especially when it comes to the future.”
