Word of Life Bible Institute Yearbook 2018

Going to bed past midnight and getting up before the sun does is a normal habit for many students of the Bible Institute. Days are booked with classes, service assignments, ministry, and homework. Because of this crazy schedule, a Word of Life student often looks to caffeine to stay awake. In years past at the Bible Institute, students weren’t able to bring in coffee during class, but with this new school year came some new and well-received modifications to the Student Handbook. a little bit of coffee

Coffee in class is the best thing that has happened to me since I moved to America. The second best thing was a french press! Logan Farfanick I promise I’m not addicted to coffee, but it makes class a whole lot better when I am awake for it all! Mikayla Nolt I used to struggle to stay awake during some class periods. Now I just have to run to the bathroom between every class instead! Todd Palmer

All jokes aside, the new beverage rule has highlighted a general caffeine craze in the student body, but another key necessity that comes with a crazy schedule is our absolute need for the gospel. Man shall not live by caffeine alone, right? Jesus (speaking of bread of course) is exhausted in the wilderness being tempted by Satan, and He knows that what really matters is living by the Word of the Lord (Matthew 4:4). Following after Jesus’ example of “rising very early in the morning” to pray to His Father (Mark 1:35), Word of Life students wake up early and have a quiet time with the Lord. This daily practice of prayer and Bible reading sets a student’s mind on the gospel every morning, reminding them that they can’t make it through the day without their Savior, Jesus Christ. As Matt Winslow said, “Being able to drink coffee in class has ‘bean real,’” but the real source of energy needs to come from a gospel-centered mindset. If Jesus, the only perfect human, begins His day with intentional time with the Lord, we also should live out this principle. Word of Life students may need a little bit of coffee, but we all need a whole lot more of Jesus.
