GLOBAL PRAYER

READING GOD'S MAP

If you went outside and began looking for the lines and boundaries found on a map of the world, it wouldn't take long for you to realize they don’t appear on the ground like they do in our navigational tools. Those boundary lines were created by humans for the purpose of maintaining borders and showing where things are located on the earth. What the maps don’t show, and yet what's far more real than man-made lines, are the cultural differences of people groups that comprise the body of believers in the family of God. Just as lines separate physical places on a map, God’s Church, though one, has many diverse needs that we may not even know about or be able to offer direct help with. However, we have the most powerful tool in our arsenal, one that we commonly fail to use in this battle against the forces of the enemy: prayer. Too often we treat prayer as “the least we can do.” We buy into the lie that if we can offer no hope, then prayer will

just have to do. We forget that interceding on behalf of others is the greatest way to concern ourselves with their needs, bending our will to God’s and pleading for the needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ. The Global Prayer Sessions created an opportunity for students to band together and lift up the needs of Christians in specific countries before the throne of the Almighty God. Seven groups met every couple of weeks and highlighted different countries, with group leaders doing research to find specific ways to lead their fellow students in prayer. Each week focused in on another location and set of needs. Think of how much of the map we were able to cover in prayer as a student body! Prayer is never the “second best” way to concern ourselves with the needs of others- in fact, it is the very bes t!
