FEBRUARY 20 The Duty of Forgiveness

FEBRUARY 21 The Warning of the Buoy

life has provided in His Word a bell buoy in every place of peril.—C. G. M oore . Pray fo r the Million Testaments Cam paign. FEBRUARY 22 Walking with God "H e had this testimony, that he pleased God” (Heb. 11:5). No wonder, then, that Enoch had mes sages to deliver, things to say which God had said to him, and things which God meant him to tell! He had, and he told them; though, strange to say, we learn this, not from the ancient history which records his life, but from one o f the last books in the Bible (Jude, verses 14, 15), as if men were not able to bear the knowl edge till revelation were nearly complete; and the church had to gain much experi ence in God’s dealings with men, ere it could listen to the rejected message of Enochs For he, too, as he walked, was a prophet; and before Noah’s day he warned the men, whose folly and shame he saw around him, o f their sin and its consequences. . . . “ He had this testimony, that he pleased God.” “He was not; for God took him.” Somewhere, as God and he walked together, a door opened, and they both went in. —J. E lder C umming . Pray fo r the Christians in Russia and in other lands who are willing to walk long distances in order to hear the Word of God. "For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, ytt the inward man is renewed day by day” (2 Cor. 4:16). When John Quincy Adams was a very old man, he was met one day by a friend, with the usual salutation: “ How do yo"u do, Mr. Adams?” The old gentleman replied: “Thank you, John Quincy Adams is very Well himself, sir, but the house in which he lives is falling to pieces. Time and seasons have nearly destroyed it. The roof is well worn, the walls shattered. It trembles with every gale. I think John Quincy Adams will soon have to move out. But he himself is very well, sir.” Amid bodily weakness, the daily re newing of spiritual strength may be an experience sweeter far than all the enjoy ment of the vitality o f youth. Have you found it so?—S elected . Say not again the best things are ex hausted; Not as with men, at first gives He the best; Joys, sweeter joys than e’er thou yet hast tasted, He holds for thee, whereby thou shalt be blest. —J. D anson S mith . Pray that to all Christian workers, whose physical strength is declining, there may come a new ministry o f intercession. FEBRUARY 23 Joy at the Last

" I f ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your tres passes” (M att 6:15). The emphasis and urgency with which our Lord Jesus Christ insisted on the duty of forgiveness are remarkable. . . . He knew the misery and the sin which always come from an unforgiving spirit. He knew that the cherishing o f resent ment and a sense o f wrong would be the occasion of strife and hatred among HiS followers, would break up the peace of families, destroy the unity of churches, impair the earnestness and vigor o f Chris tian work, quench the joy o f Christian worship. . . . The unforgiving spirit is a root of bitterness from which there springs a tree whose leaves are poisonous, and whose fruit, carrying in it seeds o f fresh evil, is death to all who taste it. —D ale . Pray for blessing upon every radio pro gram that honors the Word o f God. President Louis T. Talbot, o f the . Bible Institute o f Los Angeles, broadcasts al most daily.

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psa. 119:105). All who have coasted round our island home are familiar with the music o f the bell buoy. This buoy differs from others o f its kind in that upon the top of it there is a bell so suspended that the slightest action of the waves around the buoy will set the bell a-swinging and a-ringing. Mist and darkness may hide the beacon which warns of danger from the eye o f the mar iner, but in the blackest night the clear voice o f the bell buoy bids him turn from shoal and rock. In the great waters in which the believer’s life is cast, deadly perils lie in every direction. On one side there is the rock o f disobedience; on the other, the whirl o f care; yonder are the shallows of unbelief, while not very far away is the sand bank o f prayerlessness and earthly-mindedness. Clear o f all these must the little bark o f our faith steer its way, if life’s voyage is to be with out disaster, loss, and wreck. Happy in deed, then, is it for us that the God o f our

"Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat” (Lk. 22:31). Satan seeks to undo the work of Christ in three ways: He seeks to separate us from what we have already received from the Lord Jesus; he seeks to come in be tween us and Christ, to prevent our re ceiving more; and he seeks to separate
