Sloane Mack knew when she started attending South Dakota State University for apparel merchandising and vocal performance that her goal was to open a boutique. “I worked for a couple boutiques in college and loved the feel of a small business,” said Mack. After becoming a mom in 2022, Mack says she knew it was time to pursue her dream, but wanted to do it her way. Wildflower Boutique SD launched an online boutique that hosts pop-ups periodically around the state. “Our world has shifted so much, and being online gives me so much flexibility with my family,” said Mack.

The entrepreneur started the business out of her home in Kranzburg, specializing in carrying a wide variety of sizes, from small to 3XL. Wildflower Boutique SD also has a range of styles, where she hopes a grandmother and granddaughter could shop together and both find something. “I always want to be a one-stop shop for any woman,” said Mack. “I want you to be able to find a fun outfit for date night, work, or to lounge in on a Sunday afternoon.”

Where did the boutique’s name come from? The Wildflower name came from my love of Tom Petty . He was one of my first concerts as a young child, and luckily I was able to see him again before he passed. My logo flower was my first tattoo at 19, and I knew that would make my name/logo even more personal. What are your shopping events like? I do pop-up events anywhere from large vendor fairs, local wineries, flower shops, and even my own home! I like to travel to any small town, as community support is so important. In the upcoming months I have shows planned in Huron at a couple wineries, Watertown at The Country Road Barn , and plan to find a few more local events. You can check out my Calendar tab on the website to stay up to date. What’re some of your favorite products? Some of my favorite products currently are some new bright pink/yellow tops. I love to bring out the bright colors when summer is near. I also am loving a pair of wide-leg jeans that have silver studs down both sides. They make for the best pair of jeans for a concert (which they have seen a few already).

What’s a favorite memory or turning point of your business? This past year, I got a trailer of my own to remodel into a mobile boutique. I saw a gutted RV-turned-mobile-boutique in Denver a few years ago, and that was a big dream of mine. The idea of having a shop ready with minimum set up is such a perk! Be on the lookout for the transformation on my TikTok (@wildflowerboutiquesd). What is your favorite place in South Dakota? My two favorite places in the 605 are both beautiful lakes— Lake Byron near my hometown, and Pickerel Lake , which I grew up camping at with my family. There are so many memories of those two places with those who are most important—my family. I highly recommend a Pickerel Tea from the Pickerel Lake Lodge .
