Who were the Artists?
• Jennifer Kindert: Classical and multi-talented visual artist, including: illustration, painting, mosaics, cultural art, sculpture, murals, etc. • Nicole Dane: Textile genius, including: yarn and weaving, quilting, indoor and outdoor displays, etc. • Chelita McDuffie: Fashion extraordinaire. She can envision beautiful designs, plan and draw her ideas, to sewing and creating an entire clothing collection. She also designs with different cultural aspects and history in mind. • Kassandra Jones: Published author, poet, and creative writer. She is also a talented musician and works writing and poetry into music. • Randi Betts: Producer and visual storyteller. Anything with a camera, or working in television or film, she knows it. • Yolanda Hanspard: Theatre teacher and director. Teaching acting, designing and writing a show or personal monologues, and using theatre as a way to heal.
When and Where?
• Artists had the opportunity to plan their workshops, one off classes, residencies, and showcase of a process or product. • Artists had a handful of community venues to work with, including: The Senior Center, DeSoto Grow Market, Golden Rule Charter School, Parks and Recreation and summer camp, and the library to name a few. • Artists had to reach out to the venues to plan and schedule their classes, and work with the venue and city to promote their classes and workshops. • Artists were given a few non-negotiables: o At least 60 hours of work: including classes, prep, and a final showcase/ product o Involve and engage the community o Product/ process: community art piece, book, city display, performance, book, documentary, etc.
