Three years (today in fact) I broke my leg in half (literally) and was unable to work for some time. I had a limited safety net, consisting mostly of credit cards. When that ran out I was searching desperately for assistance to pay rent and keep utilities and phone on. I found SVdP Georgia, had an assessment with the intake team - which was a wonderful experience. There was no judgement, and they were extremely sympathetic to my plight. They were able to provide the financial assistance that I dared hope for. In addition, they insisted I use the food pantry to save my money for other essentials. It was a life saver! Everyone I interacted with in the organization was so kind, and not judgmental one iota. I vowed I would ‘pay it forward’ when I could and donate back to the organization. The credit cards aren’t quite paid off, but almost, allowing me to be in a position to give back now. In addition, I had some of my closest friends who helped with small financial gifts at the time as well, and am paying that amount forward too. What a great feeling it was to let them know I’d finally been able to do that! In addition to that, I decided this year everyone in my orbit doesn‘t really’ need’ anything, while there are so many now that do. Instead of gifts, I added that to the SVdP Georgia sum. I look forward to sending more contributions in the future.
