2026 Coolmore Handbook

MATING SUGGESTIONS: The term “blue blood” could have been coined especially for Henry Longfellow. Between them, his sire Dubawi and broodmare sire Galileo have jointly been responsible for the astonishing total of more than 450 Group winners. His dam Minding established herself as an all-time great with seven Gr.1 successes. Henry Longfellow fulfilled the potential of his extraordinary bloodlines. His 2YO campaign comprised three races over 7 furlongs at the Curragh and he won them all decisively, including the Gr.1 National Stakes by 5 lengths. He ranked third behind City of Troy on the 2YO Classification. At three, Henry Longfellow went close to a second Gr.1 success in the St James’s Palace Stakes, when he was headed close home by Rosallion. Henry Longfellow has the attraction of representing the same Dubawi/Galileo cross as Night of Thunder, who enjoyed a sensational time in 2025. Going toe to toe with Dubawi, he had 30 northern-hemisphere BTWs to his credit by early November, including 15 Group/Graded winners. Among them were 1,000 Guineas winner Desert Flower and leading 10f performer Ombudsman. DANEHILL will be back in the fifth generation of Henry Longfellow’s foals, via Lillie Langtry’s sire Danehill Dancer. Night of Thunder sired the top-class sprinter Highfield Princess from a daughter of DANEHILL and the classic-winning Desert Flower from a HARD SPUN mare. He has a particularly good record with daughters of DANSILI , siring 5 BTWs (15%), including the top-class Ombudsman and Gr.2 winner Vespertilio. Dubawi has also excelled with DANSILI mares. Mares by ZOFFANY must be candidates for Henry Longfellow. Night of Thunder also has BTWs out of mares by CLODOVIL , DANETIME , DUKE OF MARMALADE , DYLAN THOMAS , EXCEED AND EXCEL , GEORGE WASHINGTON , HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR and BATED BREATH . New Bay’s top son Bay Bridge is out of a grand-daughter of DANEHILL . Unlike Henry Longfellow, Night of Thunder has some GREEN DESERT blood. Even so, he has sired Gr.1 winner Thundering Nights from a daughter of CAPE CROSS , as well as Gr.2 winners from daughters of INVINCIBLE SPIRIT , OASIS DREAM and GREEN DESERT . Invincible Spirit’s son LAWMAN has a Gr.1 winner by Too Darn Hot, a Gr.2 winner by Zarak and a Gr.3 winner by Night of Thunder, while New Bay sired the smart Pride of Arras from an OASIS DREAM mare. Mares by SEA THE STARS should work with Henry Longfellow creating 4x3 to that great mare Urban Sea. Ghaiyyath, another representative of the Dubawi/ Galileo cross, is shining with the GREEN DESERT branch, siring Group winners from daughters of KHELEYF and DESERT STYLE , as well as Group performers with dams by INVINCIBLE SPIRIT and SEA THE STARS . Although Night of Thunder has a dam by Galileo, he already has three BTWs inbred 3x3 to GALILEO . Gr.2 winner Isaac Shelby, who failed narrowly to land the Poule d’Essai des Poulins, has a dam by GALILEO’s son HELIOSTATIC , while Gr.3 winner Thunder Kiss has a dam by TEOFILO who also sired the dam of New Bay’s Gr.2 winner Bay City Roller. This suggests that Henry Longfellow should suit daughters of successful Galileo stallions, such as AUSTRALIA , CHURCHILL , FRANKEL , GLENEAGLES , NATHANIEL and NEW APPROACH . Night of Thunder also has a Gr.2 winner from a mare by MONTJEU who is also broodmare sire of seven of Dubawi’s BTWs (23%). Zarak, another of Dubawi’s sons, has shown an affinity for MONTJEU blood. SIYOUNI sired the dams of Night of Thunder’s impressive 2024 2YO Fairy Godmother and his Gr.2 winner Zeus Olympios. This cross has a lot to offer. Siyouni’s sire PIVOTAL is the broodmare sire of two of Night of Thunder’s Group winners. New Bay also has a Gr.2 winner with a dam by PIVOTAL , while PEINTRE CELEBRE , is the broodmare sire of Night of Thunder’s high-class son Economics. One son of Dubawi has a Gr.3 winner from a GIANT’S CAUSEWAY mare and another has two GWs out of SHAMARDAL mares. LOPE DE VEGA mares should suit. Night of Thunder’s smart son Ten Bob Tony has a dam by DARK ANGEL and New Bay has good winners out of daughters of ACCLAMATION and DARK ANGEL . MEHMAS mares should suit Henry Longfellow. RAVEN’S PASS sired the dam of New Bay’s top daughter Saffron Beach, as well as the dams of two LWs by Night of Thunder, who also sired a fast filly from an ELUSIVE QUALITY mare. ELUSIVE CITY sired the dam of Zarak’s Gr.1 winner Haya Zark. Night of Thunder has three LWs from only seven foals out of IFFRAAJ mares. This suggests Henry Longfellow will suit mares by Iffraaj’s son WOOTTON BASSETT . Mares by DALAKHANI and DAYLAMI have collectively produced three Group winners to sons of Dubawi. Night of Thunder’s Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes winner Gewan is out of a grand-daughter of DARK ANGEL . 51
