Achiever of the Year MELVIN WILLIAMS
The Frank Lyon, Jr. Achiever of the Year recipient is awarded to an individual employed by Goodwill and serves as a role model and inspiration for recipients of services in the Goodwill family. They must also show determination toward overcoming the barriers in their employment. Melvin Williams came from a family where education wasn’t a priority. Athletics and just getting “a job” were more important than having “a career.” When a football injury in high school derailed his dream of becoming a college and future professional athlete, he spiraled without much hope
regarding a future working career. He then dropped out of high school and bounced from job to job. Melvin married at age 24 and had three children at home. Encouraged by his wife Symone, Melvin enrolled at The Excel Center ® in October of 2017 and ultimately became one of the first Excel Center graduates in Arkansas in 2019.

He took full advantage of the opportunities presented and he thrives with a new direction in life. Melvin now serves as the recruitment and retention specialist at The Excel Center ® .
