As I told you before, these three dif ferent substances are like unsaved peo ple. They remind me of what Paul said in Galatians 3:28, “There is neither Jew nor Greek [Gentile], there is neither, bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” The red cross on this carton speaks of Christ and his sacrificial death on the cross for us. God’s Word says that in Christ we are all one. All nationalities become one in Christ as they accept Him as Saviour, just as these three things— cement, sand, and water — become one Matthew 25:14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a .man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several abil ity; and straightway took his journey. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went anil traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth» and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh» and reckoneth with them. 20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents; behold I have gained beside them five talents more.. 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 22 He also that had received two tal ents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. 23 His lord said unto him» Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things,. I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy. lord. 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and safid. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. 26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where 1 have not strewed: 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. LESSON TEXT : Matt. 25:14-27. GOLDEN TEXT : “W ell done, thou good and faithful servant” (Matt. 25:21) DEVOTIONAL READING: Fsa. 97:1-6. Outline and Exposition I. T h e D i v i s io n o f t h e G o o d s ( 1 4 , 1 5 ) fe | ^HIS passage should be studied with Luke 19:11-27. The division I of goods among the servants was made by the owner; both goods and servants belonged to him. The owner had a right to expect, and authority to demand, good service from each of the servants. Each one received a portion; none was without something instrusted to him. The goods, or talents, varied according to the ability and opportuni ties of the servants. Concerning the goods, see 1 Corinthians 7:7; concerning the ability, see 1 Timothy 4:14. The owner gave.no more than one could use, and asked no more than one could re turn. After dividing the goods among the servants, the owner took his journey, leaving everything to the individual servants. This Scripture offers a picture of what our Lord has done with His serv ants. It impresses upon us the tremen dous importance of the way we live here while He is absent. There is also the re-

sponsibillty that is ours by reason of being His servants, instrusted with His talents, and expected to use those tal ents for His business and not for self. H. T he D iligence of the S ervants ( 1 6 , 1 8 ) First, the devotion of true servants is revealed (vs, 16, 17). They under stood that all that they had came from the owner. They manifested their rec ognition of his rightful ownership by being diligent in his service during his absence. They used whatever he had given them, their talents and their abil ity, for his purposes, not for their own. Second, the defiance of the false ser vant is revealed (v. 18). He really stole the value of the talent as well as that which might have accrued from the ability to use it properly. Today a great many of the Lord’s talents are hidden, never seen, never felt, never used. But
