CHALLENGING THE STATUS QUO continued

Long Term Goal: All students in the northeast Florida Region shall have equitable access to develop the skills needed to fully participate in the workforce, thereby building strong and healthy communities. To accomplish this, we will work towards all school districts in the Northeast Florida region developing the capacity to offer expanded and more equitable access to 21st Century Skills Development Programs with a focus on robotics, coding, and high-quality instruction in mathematics, problem-based learning, and career exploration, with pilot programs in emerging technologies. TIMELINE: 2015 STEM2 Hub began efforts with a focus on afterschool robotics and math counts programs. 2016 STEM2 Hub developed first partnership with Code.org for elementary curriculum, Computer Science Fundamentals 2017 STEM2 Hub expanded the partnership with Code.org to include a middle school course, a high school course and Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles. 2018 - 2019 STEM2 Hub increased participation by infusing robotics and coding into schools through the media centers, introduced drone education pilot, introduced mixed and virtual reality/HoloLens pilot. 2019 - 2020 STEM2 Hub began the introduction of STEM Demonstration Schools, infusing robotics and computer science into the core content areas across the grade levels. We will continue to scale and expand all programs. Will introduce new after- school programs, Scholastic E-Sports and Chief Science Officer, and will pilot A+ Certificate Training in afterschool settings. Robotics in After School - Approximate Impact: 5,000 students , with a focus on underserved students living in poverty. Robotics in the School Day/Elementary Media Centers - Approximate Impact: 37,500 students , with a focus on schools with a high concentration of free and reduced lunch, Robotics in Middle School - Approximate Impact: 22 Duval County Middle Schools , baseline is serving 2,750 students, through this program. Computer Science: Hour of Code - Approximate Impact: 65,000 students , with a focus on all students, spotlighting females. Computer Science Principles (Advance Placement course) - Approximate Impact: 7,000 students , with a focus on schools serving underrepresented and minority students. The Northeast Florida Regional STEM2 Hub is a non-profit organization that works in the seven-county region that is Northeast Florida. The STEM2 Hub works with school districts and other organizations to promote awareness of STEM2 advancements and engage the students of the community in activities that will prepare them for the careers of the future. The STEM2 Hub has many camps, after-school programs, and in-school programs for these students to partake in. The STEM2 Hub also provides professional development opportunities to prepare the teachers and mentors that the students interact with. Through a variety of community partnerships, the STEM2 Hub has a large reach in the community to engage as many students, parents, teachers, and mentors as possible.
