The Guntersville Wildcats were among several Northeast Alabama football teams in The Sports Ledger's coverage area that fell in the opening round of the 2025 AHSAA state playoffs. The Wildcats gave up two late touchdowns and a two-point conversion to give Priceville a chance in overtime. The visiting Bulldogs took advantage of the opportunity to defeat the Wildcats 24-21. Other teams falling in the first round this year include: Spring Garden, Sand Rock, North Sand Mountain, Glencoe, Collinsville, Cherokee County, North Jackson, Arab and Boaz. Photo by Brandon K. Two DeKalb County football teams have advanced to the state football quarterfinals. The Geraldine Bulldogs, led by quarterback Jon Beck Wade (top left) defeated Westbrook Christian 31-15, while Plainview Senior Brody Hodges (#1) helped lead the Bears to a 42-14 victory over Alexandria. Other teams in The Sports Ledger coverage area advancing include Pisgah, Scottsboro, and Coosa Christian. Fort Payne closed out the season in the second round of the playoffs with a 35-14 loss to Mountain Brook, Fyffe fell to Piedmont 36-0, and Gadsden City fell to Clay Chalkville 44-7.
