Smurfit Kappa acquired two integrated paper- based packaging businesses, Industria de Embalagens Santana and Paema Embalagens, based in Brazil, for a total consideration of approximately $186 million. Graphic Packaging International , Atlanta, Geor- gia, entered into an agreement to acquire 100 per- cent of the outstanding equity of folding carton manufacturer Walter G. Anderson, Hamel, Minnesota. The WG Anderson deal follows the completion of Graphic Packaging’s takeover of Mexico’s G-Box and it entering a deal to acquire Australia’s Colorpak. Print Pro Inc. , Greenville, Wisconsin, installed a new gearless flexo press from Uteco, in an attempt to grow its tissue and towel wrap business. Garlock Printing & Converting, installed two new Uteco presses, one in its Gardner, Massachusetts, facility and the other in its Reno, Nevada, facility. M&M Printed Bag in Chino Hills, California, added its second Uteco Onyx press. Label Impressions, a label and flexible packaging printer in Orange, California, expanded its operations into a new 30,000-square-foot manufacturing space. In tandem with the expansion, the company installed two additional 10-color Nilpeter presses in 13-inch and 17-inch widths to assist in the development of unique label and pouch products, such as its “softscreen” print - a low cost alternative to expen- sive screen printing. Flint Group , as part of its strategy to grow in strategic market segments, acquired Advanced Color Systems, Inc. (ACS) located in Tualatin, Oregon. Ad- vanced Color Systems manufactures and distributes water-based inks in North America and also exports to some countries outside of North America. Pro Mach, Inc. , Cincinnati, Ohio, an integrated packaging solutions company, acquired EPI Labelers, New Freedom, Pennsylvania. EPI Labelers is a dedicat- ed manufacturer of labeling products for packaging and promotional needs, providing for a large contin- gent of consumer snack food and bakery brands. Pure Pak ,which is located in Phoenix, continued its rapid expansion by adding a second Uteco press in just three years, an 8-color Onyx 808. Poly Print, located in Tucson, added a 10-color Onyx 108. The newest member to the Uteco family,Arizona Flexibles located in Lake Havasu City, purchased an 8-color Onyx 808. Amcor Ltd . bought BPI China, the Chinese sub- sidiary of British Polythene Industries plc, for US$13 million.BPI China has one plant in Xinhui, in southern China, with blown film and flexographic printing lines.
