The Fort Worth Police Department received $787,330 out of $2,095,653 in grants awarded to Fort Worth Area Agencies from the Department of Justice ’ s Capacity Enhancement for Backlog Reduction Program to reduce DNA and rape kit backlogs. The program is part of the 2004 Debbie Smith Act to provide local and state crime laborato- ries with resources to end the backlog of untested DNA evidence from unsolved crimes, analyze DNA samples, and increase the capacity to process DNA to guard against future backlogs. Fort Worth PD Secures DNA Grant Funding Department Initiatives The Fort Worth Police Department held a grand opening of the new Vehicle Storage Facility at Bob Bolen Public Safety Complex on September 28. Mayor Mattie Parker and councilmembers attended the event. The $1.9 million - dollar project was funded by the Crime Control and Prevention District and was designed by Elements of Architecture Inc. and constructed by West Fork Construction LLC. The 5,576 square foot facility is a dedicated storage space for a variety of specialized vehicles, enhancing the capacity for equipment storage and maintenance. Vehicle Storage Facility Grand Opening World Police and Fire Games FWPD Bike Patrol Officers Kynrick Koralewski, Marcus Mendoza, and Ruben Silva (pictured left to right) competed in the World Police and Fire games July 29 - August 4 in Winnipeg, Canada. Officer Mendoza received silver medals in the 40 - 49 Men ’ s Street Criterium and the Men ’ s team trial. The World Police and Fire Games is an Olympic - style competition with more than 8,500 athletes representing law enforcement, firefighters, and police officers from more than 50 countries across the world competing in more than 60 unique sports. Women in Law Enforcement Conference Approximately 500 women police officers representing more than 121 law enforcement agencies around the country attended the Women in Law Enforcement Conference at the Bob Bolen Public Safety Complex. The Fort Worth Police Department hosted the event in September. The officers had classroom, hands on, shooting, and scenario training. Lone Star Elementary Patriot Parade Fort Worth Police were among several first responder agencies that participated in the Lone Star Elementary School Patriot Parade on September 8, 2023 in north Fort Worth. The event commemorates the heroism of First Responders for their actions on September 11, 2001. The students shook hands, gave fist bumps, and thank you cards to officers in appreciation of their service.
