Antoine Quentin, détenteur du recordmondial du cube Rubik à unemain, est revenu de la compétition de cube Rubik qui se tenait à Lima, au Pérou, en juillet dernier. Ce jeune prodige de Rockland a participé à toutes les finales, à l’exception d’une seule. Il a terminé dans le top 10 dans les 15 événements auxquels il a pris part. Il s’est classé bon premier dans la discipline du 3x3x3 à une main, second dans la discipline pyraminx (cube en forme de pyramide) et troisième dans les disciplines du cube Rubik 3x3x3 (traditionnel) et en Skewb, un cube dont la rotation est faite à partir de coins. Il a également terminé quatre fois en quatrième position. Puis, il s’est rendu à Sao Paulo où 18 disciplines l’attendaient, de même que près de 450 compétiteurs. Il a pris part à toutes les disciplines et a été le seul Canadien à pouvoir réussir les 18 disciplines. Une des plus difficiles a certes été le cube 5x5x5 à l’aveugle. Il a ensuite pris part aux finales dans 14 des 18 disciplines. Antoine a été l’une des huit personnes à pouvoir résoudre le 5x5x5 à l’aveugle. (AL)

Le député Pierre Lemieux a participé au barbecue familial annuel de la résidence pour personnes âgées Jardins Belle Rive, à Rockland. Il a remis les certificats du député, du Premier ministre et du gouverneur général, aux résidents âgés de 90 ans et plus. Jean-Marc Lalonde a présenté les certificats de lamunicipalité de Clarence-Rockland et Mme Desforges ceux du député provincial Grant Crack. Les récipiendaires étaient Albertine Pommainville Bertrand, Carmelle Hotte, Dolores Masters, Dorina Sarazin, Aline Hotte, Thérèse Parent, Magella Lalonde, Desneiges McConnery, Adrienne Chartrand et Solange Lalonde. Le député Pierre Lemieux, Jean-Marc Lalonde, Mme Desforges, Rachel Langlois et le propriétaire Youri Bruchkov, son épouse et son fils André, figurent aussi sur la photo.
