Accidental fire Police are warning homeowners to be careful where they plan to dig and to call their municipal office, Hydro, and Bell for information on buried lines and wires. Emer- gency crews responded to a fire call from the Maple Grove Road neighbourhood in The Nation municipality on July 13, just before noon. A buried electrical wire was cut during an excavation and the sparking wire ignited. Besides the risk of electrocution, cutting an underground cable by accident could also result in legal costs and damages resulting from the break. Stolen chainsaws A pair of chainsaws were taken from a company truck during the annual tractor pull competition in Casselman over the July 4 weekend. Both were Stihl brand chainsaws, one of them a Stihl Quick Cut chainsaw. Also stolen from a vehicle in Casselman were a GPS system and a small amount of change. The thief took advantage of an unlocked vehicle parked on Sauve Terrasse Street on July 10.The GPS is a Garmin Nuivi 250W system. Broken window A thrown rock is believed to be the cause of a broken window complaint froma home in the Laurier Street neighbourhood of Rockland. The incident took place some- time between July 12 and 13. Traffic safety checkstop OPP in Russell Township will step up their traffic education and enforcement work after several complaints about the intersection of Dignard Street and St-Pierre Road in the township. The intersection has a stop sign posted and there is a popular bicycle path which sees lots of use fromcyclists and also children crossing the intersection. Domestic dispute Russell County OPP have charged aman with assault, mischief under $5000 value, and trespass. The charges were filed last month. His name and other details have beenwithheld at present to protect the iden- tity of the victim in the case. Drinking and driving François Morin was charged with drunk driving, driving with a blood-alcohol level exceeding 80milligrams, dangerous driving, and possession of methamphetamine. The charges resulted fromOPP investigation July 12 of a traffic complaint near the village of Casselman. His first appearance in provin- cial court on the charges was scheduled for July 29 in L’Orignal. Hay bale arson A case of arson with a country twist is on the OPP case files for Russell County. Police received a call July 12 about a fire in the Baseline Road neighbourhood of the City of Clarence-Rockland. Arriving at the scene near the intersectionwithDu Lac Road, they found several hay bales on fire.The fire was extinguished and police are asking for help from the public with information on who set
