Michael Jackson’s song, Beat It (also 40 years old), and related it to what needs to be done in Delta Sigma Theta and this country to address current social action and political awareness demands. On May 28, 1983, twenty-four visionary women recognized a need within the Orlando Metropolitan area for more public service and human service organizations to cope with its fast-paced growth and population density. At the time of the chapter’s inception, the area ranked as the fifth fastest-growing metropolitan area in the United States and the world’s number-one visitor destination. The OCAC currently serves Orange and Osceola Counties and strives to make a difference, positively influencing its community through innovative projects and programs and leading by example. Since its inception, OCAC has remained committed to stellar service and delivery of award-winning public service programming, resulting in approximately $200,000 in scholarships and incentives awarded to graduating students. Over the years, the chapter has hosted educational programs for elementary, middle, and high

school students, civically engaged the community through town hall meetings, voter registration drives, and advocacy stimulated the local economy by supporting small businesses, promoted financial literacy and empowerment, supported World Aids Day, raised awareness on issues affecting the global community, participated in the American Diabetes Association – Tour

De Cure and the American Cancer Society – Relay for Life Breast Cancer Walk. They also provided a forum for discussion regarding the mental health of college students and women.
