Celebrating 40 Years of Black Journalists in Central Florida A jubilant time was held by all who attended the 40th Anniversary

• Tina Commodore, News Director, WFTV Channel 9 • Dr. John Cummings, CFABJ Parliamentarian • Sharon Fletcher Jones, Founder & CEO, Women of A Certain Age LLC • Francis Ward, NABJ Founder, CFABJ Vice President of Print • Anzio Williams, Senior Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, NBCUniversal CFABJ, which is currently led by Spectrum News 13 anchor Tammie Fields, also presented a Global Achievement Award to Carolyn Fennell, who retired last year as Senior Vice President, Public Affairs and Community Relations, Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, and a Community Champion Award to Richard Black, Publisher of Onyx Magazine. Contributing to the future of its professions, the organization also awarded three scholarships to University of Central Florida students:

Scholarship Gala and Hall of Fame Induction for the Central Florida Association of Black Journalists (CFABJ). The group’s gala was held Nov. 4, 2023, at the Food For Thought Event Venue in Ocoee, Florida, and attended by more than 100 members of the local media, government officials, and business and community leaders. Established in 1983, CFABJ is an affiliate of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and boasts more than 50 print and broadcast journalists, radio, public relations and digital communicators, and students and professors in the communications field in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Brevard, Volusia, and Lake counties. Greetings were delivered by NABJ President Ken Lemon, in addition to the keynote brought by Princell Hair, President of Allen Media Broadcasting. He admonished his fellow journalists to not fear but embrace AI to help them better their craft. A highlight of the evening was the induction of five members to the group’s Hall of Fame:
