NCUK International Foundation Year (IFY) Year 13 Padworth College is proud to be an accredited NCUK Delivery Partner for the NCUK International Foundation Year programme. This Year 13 university foundation course, for international students aged 17+ offers GUARANTEED progression to one of the 16 NCUK Partner Universities, upon successful completion of the course. This qualification also allows students to apply to any UK university (excluding Oxford and Cambridge), as well as many universities overseas. As well as academic knowledge, the IFY provides international students with specialist English language, study and cultural skills that are an essential requirement of degree courses. Both the Business and Engineering Pathways are offered at Padworth College: The IFY in Business is particularly suitable for students who are seeking a career in business, finance and all areas of management/leadership. Academic modules studied are Mathematics (for Business), Business Studies, Economics and English for Academic Purposes.
University Preparation Identification and development of areas of interest and aptitude is important to support the most appropriate subjects and career pathway. During Years 10 and 11 careers guidance is supported through the Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) programme and tutor groups, which provide further opportunities for individual discussions and guidance. In the Sixth Form, care is taken to ensure that all students are guided carefully in their choice of A Level subjects appropriate for their intended field of study and career intentions. This is especially important for those wishing to study subjects where there is high demand for university places, such as Law or Medicine. Students are helped and supported with researching degree courses and universities throughout the UCAS application process. Encouragement and support with writing personal statements and identifying opportunities for work experience are always on hand and our University and Careers Adviser gives comprehensive individual assistance to each student. Preparation for entry to Oxford and Cambridge universities is also provided and visiting speakers and visits to university fairs, create further access to specialists. We have an excellent track record of placing students in leading universities, especially in the UK, and are committed to giving every possible assistance to students in our care and former students should they require further support.
The IFY in Engineering is most suitable for students seeking a career in civil, mechanical, chemical and all other areas of engineering. This pathway is also suitable for students who seek many science based university courses such as Computer Science, Material Science or pure science subjects. Academic modules studied are Mathematics (for Engineering), Physics, Chemistry and English for Academic Purposes.
