Woven In: Celebrating the Retirements of Two Amazing Women
MARGARITA OCAMPO’S 21 YEARS
DAWN FIEBER’S 16 YEARS
Margarita’s journey with Momentum began in Toronto, where she was working as a sales rep and connected with the local Momentum rep at the time. When she heard Momentum was looking to expand in the Toronto market, she reached out to the company’s president. One interview and 21 years later, she called that the best decision she could have made. “I started off as a rep,” she reflects, “then became the Canadian sales manager, the Canadian sales director, and now director of Mid-Atlantic.” Through her unfolding career, it’s clear how her intuition helped shape her as a fearless leader every step of the way. Of everything she’s accomplished, Margarita has a deep appreciation for the connections she’s made. “I am most proud of the relationships I built with customers and peers over the years. I will miss them,” she says.
Dawn joined the Momentum team as a sales rep for A&D and manufacturers. This eventually led her into the role of a full- time manufacturing rep. Over the years, she’s watched the Alliance side of the business transform. “I’ve seen significant Alliance sales growth,” she says, noting that Momentum’s expanding tools, such as CET, and fresh graded-in patterns have opened doors for even more opportunity. When asked how she envisions the future of Alliance, she sees deeper collaboration across A&D reps, Alliance reps, industry designers, and manufacturing design teams. “Team up more on big contracts or new contracts,” she emphasizes. Another opportunity Dawn called out is “collaboration strategies between the A&D rep and Alliance rep with Universities.” Though Dawn has faced obstacles in her career, she’s learned how to treat a “crossroads moment” like a turning point. “Never give up - the only thing that is constant is change.” During COVID, while many relationships drifted apart, Dawn leaned in. She took on more phone calls, more Zooms, more conversations. “I actually grew my relationships during that difficult time,” she notes. And when business bounced back, those relationships put her team first in line for new programs. “You win some and lose some, but you never lose when you take the opportunity to build during difficult times,” she says.
01 A funny moment happened during a visit with Kimball while Kris Ward was in town. While visiting they had an “Intruder Alert” drill and we all dove under the conference room table, laughing. Anyone not hiding got blasted with a squirt gun and silly string. It was hilarious! We even snapped a photo under the table. Fun times! Is there a story that always makes you laugh? 02 I love being outdoors, crafting, hiking, tending to my garden (which is new to me), and relaxing at the beach. I plan to travel more, and spend time with family cooking new recipes, and desire to write a series of inspiring Women’s Devotionals. In closing, Momentum has been the best to work for! Love my Momentum family and will miss everyone! Is there something you’ve always wanted to do, but never had the time for, until now?
02 So many inside jokes, but forever I will be remembered for the cooking class where Nancy Gritz and I presented at one of our directors events. Is there an inside joke that always makes you smile? 01 I learned early on in my career to listen. If I can hear and understand what a customer or one of my team members wants, I can better support them and, in turn, become a trusted ally to them. What is the most impactful thing you’ve learned from a manager or mentor?
03 My husband and I grew up visiting our families in Colombia. When we started our family, we continued to visit with our kids and decided early on that is where we would retire. We love the weather, the people, the food, and the landscape. Although at first we will only be there a few months out of the year, eventually we will be there for 6 months at a time. What I am most excited about is our planned travel. Sometimes alone and sometimes with our adult kids. My goal is to eventually find something I can volunteer for and be excited about helping a cause. What is the most impactful thing you’ve learned from a manager or mentor?
