Some so-called Christians are in error when they think they can have a wing on one shoulder, and a chip on the other. * * * Sins are like headlights: the other fellow's are always more glaring than your own. * * * STOPPING A FOOLISH MOUTH When a person is skeptical con cerning the authority of God’s Word, it is often because he does not know the truth and veracity of the Scrip tures. Speaking of his disbelief in the Word of God, a man proudly declared that in these days it is impossible to believe any book or writing whose authority is unknown. A Christian was standing in the crowd and rightly injected a very pertinent question. He asked simply, “Sir, do you happen to know the compiler of the multiplication ta bles.?” Somewhat ruffled and per turbed, the speaker shot back, “No of course not!” The Christian smiled and gently responded, “Then, of course, you don’t believe in them.” Again the skeptic was agitated and immediately rejoined, “Of course I believe them. 1 believe them because they work so well!” And with that, he had given it away. The audience immediately grasped the Christian’s point. The Word of God is given to us as an infallible guide ; we need it to nourish our famished souls. Dwight L. Moody said, “1 have nev er seen a truly u s e f u l Christian who was not also a student of the Bible. If a man neglects his Bible, he may pray and ask God to use him in His work. But the Lord can’t make use of him when there is not much for the Holy Spirit to work upon!” So may we do, as the Apostle Paul enjoins, “Study to show thyself approved un to God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth” (11 Tim. 2:15). * * * It is possible that the man who doesn't know his own mind, hasn't missed anything. * * *

Saved Witnesses (continued) buildings may be for drugs and various merchandise. (Drug stores are hard to set apart any more, for in our modem times they seem to have everything but drugs in them.) Or again, we may come to a building that is a *church separated, set apart for worship. The Lord has chosen a people out of the world who. are to be separated unto holiness that they may be God-like and conform to the image of Christ. So God hath chosen us in Him before the foun dation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love. We are not before Him in judg ment or in wrath, but rather in love. Our heavenly Father is indeed proud of us. For this reason, we are to be im maculate people, without rebuke. The world is to see in us our blessed Lord. The entire purpose of our salvation is summarized in these words, “Who gave himself for us, that 'he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, jealous of good works” (Titus 2:14). This word “peculiar” does not give us any license for being an “odd” or insane people. The word “peculiar” means that which has special value or inestimable price. So we have become His priceless pre cious people. We have become so dear to His heart, as is proven by the blood of Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ re deemed us that we might be a zealous people filled with enthusiasm for good works, not to earn our salvation, but to give evidence of it. “All for sin cannot atone; Thou must save and Thou alone! Rock of Ages, cleft for me; let me hide myself in Thee.” So having come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, out of gratitude for His love we are to do those things which are pleas ing to Him and which commend our Gospel to those in the world with whom we come in contact. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). As God’s great masterpieces, let us live for Him unto good works day by day.
