Skilled in open, endoscopic and robotic urologic surgery, the fellowship-trained urology surgeons at Riley Children’s Health are internationally recognized for their expertise in treating complex urologic conditions. Our surgeons are partners in multidisciplinary programs to aid in managing multifaceted patient needs. We use data-based performance metrics to continuously improve quality of care and to assist in helping elevate quality of life for patients with challenging conditions. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS

■ Assessment of parent perceptions about their decision for their child to undergo urological surgery; preliminary results show decisional regret after surgery is low ■ Outcomes study of 188 children with ureteroceles presenting at Riley Children’s over the past 10 years – Largest and most recent series in the literature – Indicates children with ureteroceles typically present earlier than historically reported and without symptoms Further analysis of how these children were managed and their outcomes will help guide future treatment decisions. Funded by the National Institutes of Health ■ Development of a continence goal-setting app for children with spina bifida ■ Implementation of smartphone diaries to track the activities of spina bifida patients and any incontinence that developed over 30 days

Specialized programs Comprehensive Transitional Care Program ■ One of the few programs in the nation offering transitional care for pediatric patients with complex urologic conditions as they progress into adulthood. Complex Voiding Dysfunction Center ■ Physical therapy and operative interventions, such as sacral neuromodulation are used to assist in treating voiding dysfunction. Onco-Fertility Program ■ In collaboration with oncologists at Riley Children’s, we offer access to fertility preservation methods, including sperm banking and testicular tissue freezing for children with cancer. Pediatric Urology Education Program ■ For primary care providers: Quarterly updates on common urologic conditions ■ For patients/families: Monthly, no-cost nocturnal enuresis education seminars
