SAFETY PUTTING SAFETY FIRST Safety is at the forefront of everything we do. We’re proud of our excellent safety record and actively fund and promote a culture of safety with our colleagues and subcontractors all making significant contributions.

CARL – Call, Action, Report, Learn – is an effective, convenient way to track and record close calls, reducing safety incidents. With a simple app frontend, anyone working with Colas Rail UK, from staff to clients and our supply chain, can report and record safety conversations. Since CARL launched, we have seen a direct correlation, between increased safety conversations and a reduction in accidents.

From our CEO to our frontline colleagues, we believe safety is everyone’s responsibility. We continually share, reinforce, and reward best practice safety behaviours with a high emphasis on training, competence, and assessment. Tamper Fleet Our upgraded Tamper fleet includes innovative equipment to deliver performance, safety and sustainability. Our Tampers offer continuous high-capacity tamping with simultaneous ‘Dynamic Track Stabilisation’ allowing high speed line hand back after track renewal and maintenance activities. With continuous action, our Tamper fleet allows for efficient performance and smoother output, simultaneously increasing quality and usability. Carbon Conscious We’re also driving the adoption of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) for the Tamper fleet, reducing CO2 emissions by as much as 90%.

Our extensive fleet has earned us the position of the largest supplier of on-track plant equipment to National Rail. Plant plays a major role in our business and our machines have the flexibility to work on all types of track layouts, including modular designs, S&C and plain line track to the highest levels of quality and efficiency. With the largest fleet of on- track plant in the UK, we enable complex projects to be completed effectively, quickly, and safely. Housed in strategic depots across the UK, our fleet includes the Kirow 1200 crane for track renewal, bridge replacement, and emergency response as one of four cranes in the country.

ESG ACHIEVEMENTS RECENT HIGHLIGHTS IN OUR ESG JOURNEY From adopting alternative fuels to supporting local projects in the community, we are proud of our achievements on the journey to a fairer, more sustainable future for rail. Adopting alternative fuels

Across all our projects, we strive to work sustainably and adopt efficient, low or zero-emission fuels wherever possible. Recent examples include our use of the Hydrogen generator trials at Gloucester Area Signalling Project, trialling HVO fuels with up to 90% lower carbon emissions, and using FuelActive technology to drive fuel efficiency and reduce consumption. Collaborating with environmental experts We aim to work in harmony with the natural environment, prioritising good environmental outcomes as opposed to simply minimising negative impact. As part of our programme of level crossing upgrades in Cornwall, we engaged the expertise of both the Maritime Management Organisation (MMO)
