Sideline Sports 2024 AHSAA KICKOFF CLASSIC - The 19th annual AHSAA Kickoff Classic is set to get underway on Thursday, August 22 at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl at 7 p.m. Reeltown, the 2023 Class 2A state runner-up, and Class 3A T.R. Miller are set to face off in the season opening match-up. Vestavia Hills and Carver-Montgomery will play at 7 p.m., on Friday, August 23 in the second game of the annual classic. Both games will be at 7 p.m. and will be televised over the AHSAA TV Network. SPRING JAMBOREE - The Geraldine Bulldogs will host Anniston in a Spring football game on May 17. OLE MISS FOOTBALL ADDS 31 - With spring football just a few months away, the Ole Miss football program has added a new infusion of talent to the roster, welcoming 31 mid-year enrollees to campus. The list of new Rebels joining the team for spring practice features 17 Division I transfers that 247Sports currently ranks as the No. 1 class in the team transfer rankings. Ole Miss claimed four of the top 50 available transfers, according to Rivals. The latest D1 transfers include Trey Amos (CB), Yam Banks (S), Julius Buelow (OL), Logan Diggs (RB), Nate Kalepo (OL), Key Lawrence (S), Louis Moore (S), Walter Nolen (DT), Chris Paul Jr. (LB), Diego Pounds (OL), Devin Price (WR), Gequan Scott (OL), Brandon Turnage (CB), Princely Umanmielen (DE), Amorion Walker (CB), Antwane Wells Jr. (WR) and Dae’Quan Wright (TE). Twelve December signees Travaris Banks (S), Cedrick Beavers (CB), Cam Clark (DE), Raymond Collins (LB), Jude Foster (OL), Kam Franklin (DE), Dillon Hipp (TE), Andy Jaffe (S), AJ Maddox (QB), Anthony Robinson III (S), Jeffery Rush (DT) and Noreel White (WR), along with walk-ons Paris Evans (DE) and Wylie RIley (DE), round out Ole Miss’ early enrollees. CONTRACT EXTENSION - Rutgers University and head football coach Greg Schiano have agreed to a contract extension that will keep Schiano at the helm of the program through 2030. Under the new contract, Schiano’s compensation in 2024 will be $6.25 million. ALABAMA SPORTS HALL OF FAME - Former Alabama gymnastics standout Penney Hauschild Buxton is among those selected for induction into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024. She was the first Southeastern Conference gymnast to win an NCAA title. Overall, she won four under the legendary guidance of Sarah and David Patterson, including back-to-back NCAA All-Around championships (1985, 1986). The Class of 2024 will be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame on May 4, 2024. The 56th Annual Induction Banquet and Ceremony will be held in the Birmingham Ballroom at the Sheraton Birmingham. The 2024 Class includes: Mike Washington – Football ALABAMAA-DAY - University of Alabama football fans will get their first official look at new Head Coach Kalen DeBoer at the 2024 Golden Flake A-Day Spring Football Game, which will be played on Saturday, April 13. The annual A-Day Game is the 15th and final practice of the spring and takes place at Bryant-Denny Stadium. More information on A-Day, including additional activities, traffic and parking will be posted on rolltide.com when it becomes available. Alabama has also revealed that the 2024 Homecoming Game will be played on Saturday, October 26, against Missouri. TENNESSEE FOOTBALL - Tennessee football will culminate its Spring with the 2024 Orange & White Game at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 13 in Neyland Stadium, which will be at a significantly limited capacity of approximately 10,000 fans due to construction on the stadium's south end, west side and upper north end. Ticket sales start Feb. 21.
