The Elgin Theatre Guild Presents Laughing Stock by Peri Hayes Cailyn Arnot-Howe, immersed in her second year as the Elgin Theatre Guild (ETG) Board President, is directing Charles Morey’s Laughing Stock . This performance will be presented at the Princess Ave Playhouse this February 26th until March 8th, about which Cailyn enthusiastically voices, “It has been my dream to direct this for some time. I was lucky enough to work on this show while I was away at college, and enjoyed the whole process – I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to bring it to my home theatre and share it with the community I grew up in.” Offering insight into the plotline, Cailyn describes, “The story of Laughing Stock follows a Summer Rep Theatre Company through the entire process of a season. You see them through auditions, meet-and-greets, rehearsals and performances.” Cailyn specifically notes the fascinating dynamics and the drama which will unfold on stage before their live audience. With a dedicated cast of 14 ranging in age from high school students to those who have been in the business for 30-plus years, Cailyn shares that they have welcomed several new- comers who find themselves preparing for their onstage debut. Cailyn details what excites her about this cast bringing Laughing Stock to life at the local Princess Ave Playhouse: “The great thing about this cast is that they are taking the characters and breathing life into them, differently from what I have seen before. You see parts of who they are, and watch as they make their characters grow.” As Cailyn cheerfully concludes, “We have submitted this show for out-of-festival with the Western Ontario Drama
League (WODL). This means an adjudication will take place, both publicly for our audience to enjoy after the show and then privately for our cast and crew.” Tickets and their performance schedule are available on the ETG website at elgintheatreguild.ca. Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening shows begin at 7:30 pm, while the Sunday Matinee performances commence at 2:00 pm.
